help with backup

    I want to copy or backup the dvd's I get from netflix,I downloaded easy dvd copy and anydvd the trial versions.
    The disk was copied ok,the question I have do I have to buy both programs together to do this because I removed anydvd and only used dvdcopy and it did not work.
    Or better yet what is a good paid program I can use.
    And does anydvd have to run in the backround with most programs.
