any help is appreciated, and i dont know why nero would look into the registry but maybe the reg key has something to do with it?? what if i changed that to a 1 instead of a 0... also i am using dvd-r's by ridata, they work ok in other burn programs most of the time, and i am using nero 6 because it is stable, nero 7 is not, but the burns failed in 7 and now in 6 too... hopeless..

OK I am not a Nero wizard but, I assume your RiData DVD-Rs are rated at least 4x and probably 8x. You mentioned that your burner burns these DVDs fine in other programs, have you tried reinstalling Nero?
If not, this may fix your problem so I would try that first.

When did your burns start to fail?
Have you successfully burned DVDs in Nero before?

Sorry if I am not much help, I will try to dig up info on this and will report back if I find any.

    Peace,

You are using an old version of Nero, update from here
    http://httpdl1.usw.nero.com/software/Nero6/Nero-6.6.0.18_no_yt.exe

    Package 2
    http://httpdl1.usw.nero.com/software/Nero6/NVE-3.1.0.21_no_yt.exe

    Slow to 4X
Some versions of BOTH Nero6 and Nero7 are unstable, however the stable ones are 6.6.0.18...you have the link for that one and 7.0.8.2 is the stable version of Nero7.

BTW if you are contemplating upgrading to Nero7, then you have to remove Nero6, run clean tool http://ww2.nero.com/nero6/en/Clean_Tools.html and then install from here http://www.filehippo.com/download_nero_7_premium/?845

NOTE: To upgrade to Nero7 is going to cost you $$$$$$

thank you both for your help, i did try burning at 4x as well and it fails everytime, the discs are rated for 8x and my burner can burn at 16x but i only use 8 or 4, i updated the firmware for my lg drive and it is now jlo3 which is the newest one, i think it was burning better before the firmware update, but it still failed a good 60 to 70percent fo the time, now it just always fails, i'm going to try an upgrade of nero to the 6.6 version and see if it is better, any other suggestions or any info you want to know feel free...

    i have 512mb ram, a 1.3 processor, win xp service pack 1,

does anyone know how to change the burn speed of the recorder?? i only get 8 and 4x and neither are having any success, maybe if i burn at 1x it'd be ok?? but i don't know how to get it to burn at 1x...
