Thanks for reading my message. I have a DVD I'd like to backup, the Nixon (Fmr. President) DVD. It's at least 2 1/2 hrs. long and I think maybe this is why I'm having trouble. I have tried to back it up at least 4 different times and I'm using Pinnacle's InstantCopy, choosing the 'Customized Resize' to a DVD-R. I decrypted using DVD Decrypter and the files (Video_TS.IFO, etc.) decrypt to approx. 7.9 GBs. Also, I always uncheck all the stuff I don't want (subtitles and audio in different languages, etc.) while using the 'Customized Resize' options. Every time I put in the blank DVD and copy/backup the movie, it goes almost all the way to the end (approx. 98 - 99%) and then I get some error message (sorry, didn't save the error message). I'm wondering if the time (length) of the movie has something do to w/the DVD-R? I've backed up other, larger DVDs (like 8.4 or greater) to a single 4.7 DVD-R w/no trouble, so maybe the 2 1/2 plus hours of the movie won't fit on a 4.7 DVD-R, kinda like a CD-R only allows 80 minutes of music? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You say: "re-backup Shrink's files and burn with DVD Decrypter (ISO)...". Huh? re-backup Shrink's files with what and I didn't know you could burn w/DVD Decrypter. I know there's no such thing as a stupid question, but thanks for answering these.
Ok - sorry if I muddied up the waters, didn't mean to. I'm going to assume InstantCopy will resize (shrink or compress) your 7.9Gigs of data to fit on a DVD-5 using 'Customized Resize.' If it does you should be able to burn it ok. But if InstantCopy doesn't compress the data to 4.3Gig, DVD-5 size, then it won't fit and won't burn. This is where DVD Shrink come in; it will analyse, compress to DVD-5 and burn with DVD Decrypter or Nero provided you have them installed, configured within the Preferences of DVD Shrink and backup the correct filetypes for each with Shrink...ISO for DVD Decrypter and VOB, IFO and BUP files for Nero. You can set it to "auto burn" within Shrink or to save the files and burn manually. I've put longer movies than that on one DVD. Lord Of The Rings movies are each every bit as long as 2.5 hours. make sence?

dfarm, IC 8 has one of the best pic qualities out there today. If you have it you should use it. It will compress as much as shrink or any other prog and should back up your movie with no problem. I have compressed up to 50% with very little noticeable difference of the original. If you are getting error messages it is probably something you are doing. It could be you're setting your size too large, I always stick around 4.3 not 4.7. Without more info it is hard to tell. That being said it does not have the best re-authoring program out there(kinda crappy actually), if I am just re-compressing different titles to lower main movie compression, it does fine . If I wish to re-author(edit) I use a little program called DVDRemake (25.00). It is the best editing prog I've seen on the market today. Works with all apps I have tried. It especially does well with DVD Rebuilder which has no editing capabilities. It allows you to take reauthoring to a whole new level, including removing links where you have removed sections, audio streams, multiangles, interleaving, etc. I use it with IC 8 ALL the time with picture perfect results. One final note, the new shrink is vastly improved, and yes you can use nero or decrypter to burn with it. I use it much more now than I used to. But, at 35%-40% or more IC 8 delivers a better pic in my opinion. The only thing better is the DVDRebuider/CCE combo which is not for beginners, but something to think about down the line.
