Hey guys! I recently bought a house and now am setting up a home theater. I Have an infocus x1 projector that i am using in conjunction with my PS3. I had the projector on a table before projecting on a DIY screen i made before with that light blocking shade material. I made a nice suspended shelf that now holds the projector, ps3 and reciever to get it off the ground and maximize the floor space. Now that the projector is further back in the room it unfortuneately has a larger image than my current screen size. I've been poking around ebay for a nice material to make my own screen with but there are far more options this time around. I'm hoping to get some good user experience to base my purchase on.

the 16:9 size of the projected image is about 82x45

when the projector is set to 4:3 its like 82x62 or something like that. I plan to continue to use the projector in 16:9 at the 82" or so image. The x1 puts out a 1080i image and looks great even on the light blocking shade stuff. but i was wondering how much better a different material could make the image look

    room size is 11W x 15L

projector is mounted on the back wall on a shelf is is about 14' from the projection surface.

here are the screen materials i am torn between:

    Thanks guys!

http://cgi.ebay.com/106-HDTV-3-Layers-Pr...1QQcmdZViewItem if you read feedback it stated non-reflective material just for you to be warned!!!
this one the user has a 99%+ feedback(be warned look at feedbacks on ebay)... i bought stuff from users with 98% feedback and power seller(also paypal verified) and turned out to be junk. Paypal also wanted me to get some kind of proof of its crapiness at my own cost(F*$)@#$) paypal you do not know what customer service is all about, i still use paypal but if ever there is a better service out there i'll switch in a instant)

if you read feedback 100% of people are happy so i guess we have a winner(the above says its reflective and its only about 50$ not bad at all)-

Hi there 3mrhythm, hows the screen have you got it yet and did it make any difference in the picture quality? I made a nice screen from a blockout blind that I brought from lowes that was a light grey and that worked really well. I also have an X1 and love it I know that there are many better PJ's to be had but for some reason I just love this little thing! Could do with better blacks though! I use a Tosh HDDVD A3 with mine and the pic quailty is great whats it like with the PS3 as I was thinking about getting one but thought that the res on the X1 wouldn't do the PS3 justice....

My image quality is amazing. and i think there was a slight up in quality with the newer screen.. definitely nice to be able to put he screen up when I'm not using it to keep down on dust and such. The ps3 video and sound quality is amazing. This x1 that i have is my second.. i sold my first one that i bought when the bulb blew and bought a new one with the money i sold the old one for lol.. gotta love ebay.

The x1 i have has been flashed with the screenplay infocus firmware which gives me a much better picture and i get to use the screen play remote which has many more user friendly buttons.

My father has the x3 and my father in law has an optoma.. my projector blows both of them out of the water. I really think for the price range the x1 is probably one of the best units out there.

i'm shooting 720p on the screen now at the 82" across (not diagonal) image and its much better looking that the 1080i i was using before... i wish the x1 could push 1080p .. but really the 720p has be amazed still durring movie play time..

i have a friend that has an xbox 360 and a toshiba lcd that is 720p and my projector the way it is setup and such puts that to shame too .. idk where or how you can get the thing reflash for the screenplay firmware.. but i would reccomend it .. i noticed a great improvement over the last projector i had.. that and i upgraded to the blu-ray lol that has alot to do with it too .. but the richness of the colors are alot nicer.

my x1 really hasnt ever left me wanting a different PJ .. other than the allure of 1080p :)

I like my X1 too and as I have under 1000 hrs on it I'll stick with it until 1080p PJ's come down in price. Moving to HD did make a big difference to the pic quality, first with my Samsung OTA HD receiver and now with the tosh A3 you can really tell the difference. I just wish that there was a way to tweek the contrast a bit more. I can do that with my Cambridge Audio dvd player and it looks great but the level of detail is not as good as with the tosh. I did use the 4805 firmware tweek and that helped, I tried using a couple of filters but it made the pic too dark, but all in all I am a happy bunny with the setup.

Mix white paint and aluminum (or "silver" color) paint 50/50 and paint the wall. Works as good as a $100 screen. Costs less.
