My father has just purchased a Panasonic DMR-E50 DVD recorder and is trying to connect it into his existing setup of Sony digital TV, Philips VCR and an extra TV in another room. The extra TV can only take RF input and he used to connect this to the RF out of the VCR so he could watch videos in the other room. Now the DVD has been added he wants to be able to watch DVDs in the other room but he can't seem to get anything out of the RF out from the DVD whilst playing a disc. Should the DVD player be capable of playback via RF ? Thanks for any help you can offer.
i don't think that rf out is for the dvd part. most dvd players will only output via component, s-video, rgb or even dvi. i suspect that the rf out is for the cable to go to the tv. you probably need an rf adapter with an a/b switch to get the output on the old tv ( or else get a new tv with modern inputs)
I've never seen a DVD player that had an RF out, but I've connected a DVD player to a TV by running the composite video and L/R audio outputs of the DVD player to the inputs of a VCR that was already connected to the TV. The VCR basically acted as an RF adapter.
Thanks, but he's solved the problem. A quick call to Panasonic revealed that you have to tell the DVD recorder which channel to use for RF out (by default it is not set to produce anything on the RF out). After doing this, auto-tuning the TV found the playback. He's happy now. Thanks for your help anyway.
Of course I get to this thread a little too late. It took me a while to figure this one out myself. Just an FYI for everybody, any DVD recorder has an RF output. It is there because by nature, it is designed to record off standard broadcast TV, and they designed it to work like a VCR does. I'm just not sure why by design Panasonic decided to make theirs not have a default RF out channel. _X_X_X_X_X_[small]All the bruning info you need to start is here: http://www.dvdrhelp.com/forum/userguides/141024.php#dvd9dvd2one[/small]
Yeah, I didn't notice when I posted that he was talking about a recorder instead of just a player, but it is strange that the RF was disabled by default.
Hello.. I am trying to set up my TV along with an RF Modulator, to attach to an Oritron DVD Home Theater System, Dish Network and to my VCR for it all to work. I have not been able to get the right cables in the right place. Can someone tell me what goes where? Thank You! Shelly
