Hi everyone, I'm new to the DVD scene and would appreciate some guidance from anyone who is more experienced than I am in DVD authoring. Several months ago I saw a DVD of a TV mini-series. This DVD was professionally authored so that if one put it in the TV/DVD player, it played straight through, or if one wanted to view and select a specific episode (it had 4-6 episodes on the DVD), a very nice menu was there to select among the episodes. And, the menu was animated, both before the selection was made and more so after the selection was made. I want to be able to do the same with the animated menus. I have been printing and reading many of the various Guides here on Afterdawn, and am still somewhat confused as to which one (or ones) would best serve my needs. I realize the learning curve will probably be steep, however, I am a highly educated person who learns quickly having spent many years in the ever changing field of medicine. With software, I tend to start off a bit slow until I grasp how the software “thinks.” Then I usually have a very good grip on it. I just finished printing all the Guides on the TMPGEnc products as I've been typing this post, and will be studying these after I eat a bit of lunch. If anyone who has done this before, or something similar would be so kind as to offer a little suggestion or more, I surely would appreciate you, Texas-size. Cheers, TheTexan Oh, BTW, if this isn't the proper forum to ask this question, would some kind could please tell me which forum would be more appropriate. This is my first time to post in any forum on the Internet since I got on the 'Net back in '93. Thanks.
You can make your own with freeware 'DVDAuthor GUI' - this is for someone interested on building from basics. It requires that the title(s) be in elementary streams - a fancy phrase meaning the ripped DVD source's, video, audio and subtitles be separated before being merged with the new menu that you create. DVD video can be demuxed with 'Rejig'. You can use a very good pay-ware package TEMPgenc 'DVD Author 3' relatively painless menu making - I used it until the demo ran out. http://download.videohelp.com/liquid217/dvdauthorgui.pl http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/video_tools/rejig.cfm http://www.pegasys-inc.com/en/index.html
Thank you very much, Attar. I appreciate your rapid reply and the mention of the freeware, which means the price is right! <vbg> I'll download the programs as soon as I finish with this post and start the learning curve. Thanks for spending your time helping me. Greatly appreciated.
