I'm really not sure how the brother deos it and I would love to know. I have problems with downloading this like ques, disconnections etc. I'm not sure if the movies are downloaded but they are in v. good quality and they are put onto DVD-Rs. You would have to re-render it in dvd format like it vegas 4.0 or premiere 6.5. Then Author it like in dvd archtect or tmpgenc dvd author. Then burn.

    hi,

Thankyou for answering my question. What is Vegas 4.0 or permiere 6.5? What would it do to the film if I 're-render' it? How would I author it? Please Reply. James. P.S Sorry about the questions, I'm new to this stuff although I've learnt how to convert SVCD to VCD.

    Hey Jamesino,
As a compete newbie, I would suggest you spend a little time reading through some of the conversion guides that are available on this site, at http://www.doom9.org or at http://www.dvdrhelp.com

Its really hard for us to help you right now because we don't know what type of files you are starting from, what tools you have, and what terminology you are familiar with.

I recommend you start at http://www.dvdrhelp.com On the left hand side of the screen there are lot of sections that explain the basics of DVD structure, terminology, and what types of files are associated with what formats and/or programs. The guides at this site are also very useful.

If you don't find what you are looking for at that site, try http://www.doom9.org In the "Guides" section of that site there is a section called "Format conversion" that lists a lot of possible source->destination conversion processes and gives very clear guides for how to do each.

Afterdawn has the most friendly and helpful user base on the web, so come back after doing a little more research at the sites I suggested, and people will be sure to help.

    Hi,

If you are wanting to know what I am familiar with, I know how to convert SVCDs to VCDs using DVD2AVI and TMPGEnc. Thats all I know. I learnt how to do that using www.dvdrhelp.com The guide for that is great. I havnt looked at the guides on this site or www.doom9.org, but i will soon. I hope it wont take long and needs software for which I have to pay for. The other problem I have is I noticed that the brother of my mate uses DVD-Rs to do his films. Do you know anywhere around the city of Leicester where I could find cheap DVD-Rs as I have looked at the rpoce and the proces for them are dreadfull. Please Reply. James.

You can do a google search for vegas 4.0 or premiere 6.5 to find out about them. They are video editing software.

    Jamesino,
your mate's brother was obviously crreating DVDs. Do you have a DVDr drive on your computer? The DVDr discs won't work in a regular CDR/RW drive.
The main programs needed for the process of AVI to DVD are: TMPGEnc, an authoring program, and burning software. I do not know of an authoring program that is free of charge, but TMPGEnc DVD Author is pretty reasonable at around US$50.
If you are familiar with DVDrhelp.com, then you have all the information that you need. Read through their guides on DVD creation and try out a few of the processes.
Even SVCD to VCD must have seemed confusing at first, but after a little research in the guides section you got it right. Try the same strategy for DVD.

    Hi,

Yes, I have discovered that I cant write on DVD Rs in my CDRW Drive. I found a way to see what works on my DVD player with dvdrhelp.com and it says that CD-Rs dont work, but CD-RWs do, is this true? Will CD-RWs really work?? Please Reply. James.
