    hello members,

    I'm very eager to begin doing my burns on dvd+r booktyped to dvd-rom. (hope I have that right) Everyone on here raves about the results they are geting.

    I d/l booktype 135 (lite-on Bit Setting Utility v1.3.5)

    I get an error message, "F/W not supported"

    I follow a link in here to get lite-ons firmware. I have a Lite-on DVDRW SOHW-1633S BPSA. I d/l the zip file for 1633S. But when I go to run it, it gives me this error message,

    [bold]No Matched drive detected!
    This utlity is only fo LITE-ON DVDRW SOHW-1633S drive.

    Detected drives :
    3-0-0-0 E:LITE-ON DVDRW SOHW-1633S BPSA
    4-0-0-0 F:Generic DVD-ROM 1.0 [/bold]

    Can anyone steer me to the corret firmware upgrade? Thanks in advance. I really want to start burning in the manner that everyone is recommending.

    If that doesn't work, then try book typing with Nero and DVD Decrypter. I've tried the Lite-On Book Type Utility 1.3.5 for my DRU710A, which is a rebadged Lite-On 1633S a few times, but it failed to book type after burning is completed. I've seen and read on the net (possibly cdrlab.com) mentioning that the Lite-On Book Type Utility does support the DRU710A & 720, but unfortunately even if it (the book type utility) said "changed/book typed successfully" after it burned, it still is a DVD+R when I checked with DVDIdentifier.

    However, whenever I burned with Nero and DVD Decrypter using a DVD+R media and it always book typed into DVD-ROM successfully.

    Just a note that's all.

    @MuneyG..... The latest firmware for the 1633S is BSOS. It's on the site you d/l booktype135. If you have a problem downloading Lite-On.com try http://forum.rpc1.org/portal.pup Texas Outlaw...

    i had this on two newly purchased 1693S's (both the firmware problems and the booktyping issues). the firmware updating i only achieved by moving the drive(s) to my spare pc, updating the firmware and bring drive(s) back into main pc. However the booktyping was impossible for me so i got rid of the 1693S's altogether and moved to LG drives out of sheer frustration and far too many wasted hours messing..

    @ALKOHOL

    How can I booktype using nero and DVD decrypter, as you suggest?

    Not sure I'm following you.....are you saying that I can still booktype without updating my firmware?

    That update(BSOS) is the one I tried when I got this error message.

    For booktyping with dvd decrypter do this. Open DVD decrypter click on tools, the drive, then change booktype, clik on lite-on, next click on which media type you are using' then click on drop down and click DVD-Rom. It will change the booktype on the next dvd + that you burn to DVD_Rom.

    @Bluto

    Thanks for the info. I'm at work now so I'll have to try that when I get home. U tell me to click on Lite-On....not sure what you mean? Maybe I just have to be at my home computer to see this happening. Just want to make sure I'll be able to booktype WITHOUT upgrading my firmware. I can't find the proper upgrade and Booktype Utility 135 won't let me change any settings.

    When you click on tools, drive and change book type another box opens which has like 7 burners listed, lite-on is one of them.

    Bluto,

    Thanks for the clarification. I can't wait to get home and try it out now!!! I've done all my burns on Verbatim DVD-R's (I always burn at 4x). I've been pretty happy so far, but some compatability issues arise every now and then. Also, It's easier to find +r's in my area for some reason.

    Crossing my fingers....hoping it's that easy when I get home. Thanks everyone!!

    MUNEYG,
    I hope so also, I have the lite-on 1693s and it works for it but mine took the update to KSOA. I had not tried to book type before the up date. GOOD LUCK!

    I still have not been able to correct this issue!!!

    Can anyone help me get my drive able to bookmark dvd+r's. I tried doing it through DVD Decrypter as well...but it's not giving me the right options.

    I have concluded that there is no way around it...I need to some how update my firmware....but I can't find one that works. Can I flash it with another models firmware?? Don't know much about this at all, but I'm really frustrated right now!!

    don't the options available because I'm at work...but I tried every option ( I think there was 4 options) and none worked. There wasn't even one for dvd+r.

    I've tried everything everyone has said and nothing works. That's why I'm focusing my attention to getting firmware that would work with my burner.

    Let me ask a question here if I may as I am not fully understanding the booktype process. BTW, I don't have a lite-on as is being discussed here. My burner is NEC 3520AW 3.05. When I go to DVDDecrypter and go thru the change booktype process, I get the following choices:
    +R
    +RW
    +R DL
    +R media - temporary
    +RW media - temporary
    +R DL media - temporary

    Should it show something different, or if not, what would you choose to make it booktype to dvd-rom?

    TSquare43..... With the NEC 4320A with firmware 3.04 and using DVD Shrink 3.2 to burn if you are using the +R disc the last page where you okay the burn you will find booktype. Just remember to check PRIOR to the burn. It couldn't be more simple. With the Lite-On burner, I would advise using Booktype135 which is a piece of Lite-On software prior to the burn. CIAO....

    @MUNEYG

    Here is a guide on how to "book type" via DVD Decrypter. This is when you're "ready" to burn to the blank media (DVD+R DL, DVD+R, DVD+RW) only. If DVD+RW and DVD+R/+R DL doesn't work, then try the (DVD+R/+R DL Media - EEPROM!) - it should work. NOTE: set both of your "source" and "destination" ready, then do the following and burn it.

    If you have the following set to "Automatic" then whenever you use Nero Recode 2, Nero Express or Nero Burning Rom to burn, all your backups will automatically set the book type to DVD-ROM. That is... if your DVD burner is capable of book typing.

    ((Here's how to Book Type using Nero Burning Rom))

    01) open up Nero StartSmart, then click on Nero Burning Rom
    02) EXIT out the "New Compilation" when it pops up
    03) click on "Chooses A Recorder" (it's a small burner icon next to (I) and the arrow down)
    04) click on “Options," then on "Book Type Settings," set to "Automatic" and click "OK" - that's it... easy as smoking. Now every time when you burn using a DVD+R, DVD+RW or DVD+R DL disc, Nero will “automatically” change the Book Type into a DVD-ROM format.

    Thanks for the reply. I was erroneously trying to do it before I got to the burning page. My bad.

    Alkohol..

    Thanks for the step by step guide. I get the same options that you see. I will try your options tonight when I get home. Maybe I didn't try as many options as you suggested. Kinda got confused when I didn't see a DVD+R option available...but I did try other options. Maybe I did something as stupid as forgetting to click the change button!!! Hahahaha. I'm hoping it will be that easy!! Thanks again everybody for your help. Thanks for giving me HOPE again. If I get this thing working tonight....DRINKS ARE ON ME!!!!!
