Hey guys I was wondering if you could shed some light on this problem I have. I was running Firmware 3.41 on my PS3 using a dongle to spoof 3.55 but kept having problems getting stuff to run, so I'm trying to upgrade to Kmeaw 3.55 - I've read a few guides on it and went to install OFW 3.55 but I got an error. I re-tried, this time booting into recovery and trying system update but it says I need to Connect storage media that contains update data of version 3.56 or later. Does this mean I won't be able to use Kmeaw 3.55 or is there a way round it?
That's what I was thinking but strangely when I don't have the dongle in, it says I'm on 3.41 - I wouldn't mind staying on this but it seems any back-ups of recent games just won't start. They all hit the black screen on start-up. I've heard of modified eboot files but can't find any.
Why do you have the dongle in? Best thing to do is download the ofw 3.55 from a site you can trust. Sony obviously only have 3.56 available. install ofw 3.55 without using a jailbreak dongle. when that is installed go into recovery mode, again without using the dongle, then install kmeaw 3.55 vis teh update option. The pointof cfw is that you do not have to use the old jailbreaking dongles anymore.
That is what I'm trying to do. I load up my PS3 without the dongle and it says the Firmware is 3.41 - then I try to update to Official Firmware 3.55 (which I downloaded from a reliable site) but it says I need to install 3.56 or later.
You needs to disable internet connection on the network setting. Or it will tell you to update to the latest FW which is 3.56
that shouldnt matter if your in recovery mode,,at least with mine it didnt,just only have the jumpdrive plugged in with the 3.55 update and you should be good,
I tried making sure the network settings were disabled and went into recovery but still getting the same thing. It won't accept anything but 3.56 or later. The only thing I've got plugged into my ps3 is a western digital passport drive with the OFW 3.55 update in "PS3/UPDATE" folder. I had to initially take it to a guy to get my ps3 ready for back-ups, I think it was on OFW 3.55 before and he downgraded it to OFW 3.41 then gave me a dongle. Does that make any difference?
No, after downgrading you can upgrade like normal. The only thing I can think of is that you are on 3.56 I know you have said you are still on 3.41 but I cannot see any other explanation. Or maybe you have downloaded or been tricked into downloading 3.56 and someone has labeled it 3.55
Another thought.. Did you use spoofing on 3.41 and dns trick to go on psn? Also did you get the infamous message from sony. Is still a bit early to know just how this is working but could it be a flag?
i have the same problem i was on 3.41 i updated to 3.55 to install kmeaws 3.55 cfw but had trouble installing it so down graded back to 3.41 again and continued to use jbreak i found out later what i was doing wrong so went to reinstall 3.55 ofw but my ps3 (60gb) fat wont except 3.55 only asks for 3.56 or later so i think somewere in its memory it thinks i already installed 3.55 even though it is 3.41.i will have to wait for 3.56cfw unless anyone has a fix for this.
Here is the problem: He was on 3.55 ofw when he technicaly upgraded to hermes 3.41 firmware. Hermes tricks the playstation into thinking your upgrading to 3.56 but your realy loading the 3.41 cfw firmware. Now it causes a problem because theres 2 layers of security, which is in the os and off the os. the os is obviously hermes 3.41 cfw but when trying to go to 3.55 ofw, it wont let you, because even though your upgrading the os, the ps3 considers you to be downgrading sinse it thinks your on 3.56. people have reported that there are diferent downgradeing metheds that dont require the lvl 2 diag. I'm unable to figure this out but i am reserching it at the moment. people say that you can downgrade from 3.41 cfw (which is really 3.56 cfw) to 3.15 ofw and from there you can upgrade back to 3.55 ofw. I understand how it would work in a sence, however following these guides i get stuck because my ps3 wont let me downgrade. i put my ps3 break v1.2 into downgrade mode and downgrade to 3.15 ofw but when my ps3 turns on it says to download 3.56 or later to a usb drive and hit start and select to instal. obviously dont install 3.56 as u will lose downgrade support. i just reinstalled hermes 3.41 (but it tells ps3 its 3.56). if kmeaw wud create a firmware thats 3.56 cfw but is really the 3.55 ofw, we could upgrade to his os. correct?
