    I don't use 1-click applications, but the 'rule' is this one:
    DVD have various bitrates: an audio bitrate + a video bitrate.

    Using a 'bitrate calculator' (I have DVTool, but there are many) you ask the question "If I have a M minutes movie, I want to encode its audio into a 128 kbps MP2/AC3 format and I need to fill a 4.7 GB DVD-R, how large can be the video bitrat I encode the video?'.

    For instance, a 120' moviea musti with be encoded with a video bitrate equal to
    - 4979 kbps if A=128 kbps;
    - 4947 kbps if A=160 kbps;
    - 4915 kbps if A=192 kbps.

    You must at first choose the destination audio bitrate (which, since garbega in = garbage out, won't be larger than the AVI file's).
    Then , inserting movie's length and ausio bitrate if your bitrate calculator, you'll find the maximum 'average bitrate' which the DVD video can have.
    Then, you encode AVI --> DVD video + DVD audio (I never used Cucusoft, so I don't know neither how to tell it the audio and video bitrate constraints neither if it creates a M2V + an AC3 file only or directly authors a DVD set of files [IFO,BUP,VOBs] at once, but you now should have every information you need).

    Ah, if you don't want to throw away the job you've already done, simply shrink the DVD files with DVD Shrink, which was born just to do this. It can shrink a DVD9 into sets of files which can be burned into a DVD5.

    No. DVD Shrinks can only shrink VOBs, it doesn't encode AVI --> DVD stuff --> VOB.

    You should learn which options you can edit in Cucusoft to keep VOB size limited to 4.7 GB (i.e. the how much bitrate it must use when it encodes the AVI (which is usually a DivX/XviD video stream + a MP3/AC3 audio stream) of the final DVD audio (AC3) and video (M2V).

    If Cucusoft makes those calcolation by itself [so a bitrate calculator is not necessary], you probably must tell it in some way that the final result must fit a DVD5.
    If you can't discover how, you will make:

    1) AVI --> VOB through Cucusoft;
    2) DVD9 VOB --> DVD5 VOB using DVD Shrink.

    (rather annoying but at least feasible, if you don't manage to find some Cucusoft user guide around)

    Wow..thats something to digest..and tossing the VOB's to DVDshrink will not work iether...CuCusoft along with 99% of AVI to DVD conversion progs do not write all the DVD compliant Pub files that DVD shrink requires...thats a naughty thing to do to a noob

    Here is what I do to get the movies to fit on DVDr.

    I put the movie in to Nero and if it gives you an option to reduce the quality, select it(this will allow you to fit the movie on to the disc, but with reduced quality) and then burn it.
    If you want to keep the quality, use Nero to make an ISO of the Movie( it might say that your project is to big to fit on a standard dvdr but will fit on a dvdr9(9GB disc). Just select ok and let Nero encode the movie to an ISO( have to select the out put of the file at the part where you select what drive you want to use to burn the disc in). Once Nero is done encoding and saving the movie as an iso, Open DVD Shrink and click on the file button. You will see three options((1)Open Disc( selects the drive with the movie in it), (2)Open(allows you to select a dirctory)(3)Open Disc Image(allows you to select an image of a disc). Select Open Disc Image and then open the dirctory with the ISO in it. Then select the ISO you made, Once you do that, DVD Shrink will scan the ISO, once it is done scanning the ISO, Click on the backup button on top. This will creat ethier a disc or another ISO(depending on what you want as the end product). If you select burn to disc, make sure you have a Blank DVDr in your DVD Burner. If you select ISO, you can burn it using what ever program you like, or save it for another and then burn it. Just make sure that you have enough room on you HDD if your going to creat another ISO and to delet the one that Nero created after DVD Shink is done creating the Second one. And then your done^_^

    PS. It takes a little while to do(Nero needs to encode and DVD Shrinks needs to compress the movie)but it is worth the wait. If Cucusoft Software gives you the option of makeing an ISO you can do the samething like with Nero, thats if it gives you the ability to make ISOs.
