Hey all Before i start, ill tell you that im using TMPGENc to encode, and i have successfully been able to burn my avis to dvds thanks to your help previously... anyways, i have had a little trouble with the sides of my screens being cut off and i have been reading through the forums to try and find the cause... so i used avicodec to find the differences in the original and final products of encoding... I found that in my original avi's the FPS was set as 23.976 and my aspect ratio... although still 4:3 was set originally as 640*480 and after encoding they were set as FPS 29.970 and the aspect ratio was set at i think it was 720*480... so i know im at least losing the very edges of my screen... does anyone know how i can fix this? oh im using NTSC as well... no PAL
What is the resolution of your Source File??? Also if your Source file is 23.976fps you have to set the "Encode Mode" setting to "3:2 Pulldown When Playback" and then set the "Frame Rate" to "23.976fps(Internally 29.976fps)".. This is the Proper way of encodeing 23.976fps AVI files to 29.976fps as if you simply set the Frame Rate to 29.976fps you can get Jumpy Playback because it is the Improper way of Converting Frame rates.... So if you tell me the resolution of your AVI file than I can tell you how to encode it to 720+480 without Cutting off any of the Image... Cheers PS: Your TV set will "Allways" cut off at least 10% of the Image arround the edges of the Frame because your TV set has what is called an "Overscan" area that cuts off the edges of the Screen to hide the Jagged Interlace artifacts that appears with Interlaced Video...The way to stop this From happening is to add a Black border arround the Image so the Parts that get Masked by the Overscan are the Black Bars and not part of the actual Image.....
Yeah, i was going to mention that i knew about the tv cutting off edges... as for the resolution it is 640x480. Also, this '3:2 pulldown', just to make sure that refers to the settings for encode mode and it will be called 'Inverse 3:2 Pulldown' right?
Oh i dont know if i can ask more than one question here but... how do you apply this black border you refered to as well?
Sorry for crowding you with questions here but i just tried setting TMPgenc like you had said and when i try to set the frame rate it wont let me?
You first have to have all of the Settings Unlocked (Click the "Load" Button then navigate to the "Extra" folder and select the unlock.mcf template which will unlock all of the Tmpgenc settings).. Then you have to set the "Encode Mode" setting First and then the "Frame Rate" setting but you can"t do anything untill the settings have been Unlocked.... Cheers
Thanks Minion everything seems to be working fine now... Regarding the black border however, if i run into that problem how do i set the border?
I seem to still be running into some problems... should i be using the project wizard? It seems easier but if its screwin me up ill do it the other way... I unlocked the settings but it is still greyed out? I can change the fps but not the encode mode... Thanks for being patient lol
No you should not be useing the Wizard because the Wizard will Load a Template which Locks the settings... You have to Exit the Wizard and then Load in your File and then click the "Load" button and go into the "Extra" Folder (In your Tmpgenc Install Directory in the "Templates" Folder) and Load the "Unlock.Mfc" template which will unlock all Settings which will allow you to set the "Encode Mode" and every other setting in Tmpgenc.... The Unlock.mfc template unlocks every single setting in Tmpgenc so there are no Greyed out settings at all (Accept for Mpeg-1 encodeing).... Cheers
