- my God that version is out of the bible, update to latest 6.x version, 6.6.0.18 (Update-Package 1) from here - http://www.nero.com/nero6/enu/nero-up.php - from what i can gather these model burners date back to at least 2002 and the latest firmware i can find is D101 dated from Aug 2004!! so the firmware is way out of date to cope with newer media..see here - http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=1449 but either way this burner's way past it's sell by date. see comments further down re the firmware not recognising the discs you're trying to use at the moment - you need to close down more programs prior to ALL dvd work/burning to free up more memory - you're burning too close to outer edge of discs. If you use DVD Shrink, set target size to 4300MB in Shrink's preferences thus avoiding outer edge and not sacrificing much space - your blanks discs aren't being recognised, due to the firmware being so old. this is similar to what you should see - - ie a 3line paragraph when the firmware's up to date. Your new discs are newer than the burner's firmware knows what to do with - see previous comment the ATAPI drivers are supposed to be listed in this section, fix this via - http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/FAQ.htm Your biggest problem here is that the discs are newer than the burners' firmware knows what to do with. As you say, you want a new burner anyway, i don't believe there's much choice in laptop burners so see what makes you can find and post back with the names and i/others can maybe advise as to which is the most well known ie best supported burner
