Help!! with harddrive...

    ok heres the deal just today i got my new computer and it only has 1 hd, so in my old one i had an extra one that i want to install in my new one but my new one does not pick it up the hd im trying to install is a western digital and has my files that i need for college, it is set to slave do i need to do anything else to it? i need help and fast before i have to leave thanks...

    is it on the same cable as the new hd?? does the bios see the drive?? is the new hd set as master or single & what is the manufacturer of the new hd??

    the bios on my new computer doesnt see the second hd, it is set to slave as well and its a western digital. the second hd came with a disc to install it when i use it to install my second hd to my new computer it says it only can find 1 drive which is the orginal one in there..,

    what is the new hd jumpered as, as in master, slave or cable select? already know the old wd is set as slave but need to know what the new 1 is set at.

    no the one in my new computer is set to master its the one that came with it the one that im trying to put in is set to slave and still i get nothing

    if using the 80wire 40pin cableis the master on the end & the slave on the middle? did you try to auto-detect the drive in the bios?

    can you try on the 2nd ide cable by it self to see if detected or not?

    you mean the just try the second input on the ide cable like the one thats for the slave drive?

    just shotting out of the dark but maybe they have 2 different os, would that be a problem, and plus even tho if he could get the 2nd hd on his comp wouldnt he need to format it anyways so all his college information would get erased?

    i just tried putting it in and i got a disk read error but it still works fine in my old pc

    no they are both running windows xp home but does it matter about the service packs? cuz one has 1 and the other has service pack 2

    doesn't matter if both have an os loaded as only c: can both if set as such in the bios. try using the ide cable from old computer on the old hd on ide2 connection.
