i need help with upgrading from firmware 1.5 to 1.51 using the hitachi 79 ixtreme flash. Can i just overwrite the 1.5 flash with the 1.51 or i heard that i need to flash the original 1st and then 1.51. Do i still need to 79 unlock the drive again?
i'm pretty sure you have to restore the original firmware, and then reflash with the 1.5.1 firmware. i have the 78fk and that's what i had to do. i can't speak to the "unlock" of the 79, sorry.
Yes you will still need to get the drive to mode b, play the 79 unlock cd, and use the 79 unlock program. DO NOT over write 1.5 firmware with 1.51. You will need to restore to stock firmware and then write 1.51. Use the Jungle Flasher program and tutorial. Very easy to do. Jungle Flasher has 79 program built in, all you need is the CD in the 79 drive. It will do the unlock for you once you press the button.
Is this the same for every drive? I have a benq and plan on upgrading to 1.6 when it comes out. I saved all the orginial firmware. I would assume, you read, then write it with the orginial and then do it all over again with 1.6. Those the proper steps?
with the benq drives it is easy as all you have to do is just change key to your key and overwrite the old iextreme firmware. Ive dont the benqs many times like this and it works fine. The hitachies seem to be a pain in the @. I have hitachis, the drive sucks and they are a pain to mod.
Cool. so I don't have to go back to the old firmware first? I would just do a read, then write again?
??? You asked the same question first, xeonox answered, you said "cool" as if you read his reply and understood the answer, then you ask the same question again. Come on... put the beer down and your glasses on 8) Don't sweat it. Inject your key in to the new firmware and you can write over top the old. Well, actually it'll erase the old firmware first, but there's no need to flash back to the original. You only have to flash back to the original with Hitachi drives. And I do agree with xeonox about the Hitachi's being a pain. Well... I guess not so much of a pain. Just more steps involved.
