Hi, I'm a complete newbie. I have a 1 minute avi file that is 140Mb. Someone gave it to me on a CD. I was hoping to be able to stream the video from a web site. But I have no idea what I'm doing. I'm a programmer so Im technical but don't know anything about video. I'm hoping to be able to do this with freeware or shareware software as this will probably be the only time I need to do this. Thanks for any help. Hope I haven't been to vague.
How about converting it to wmv (usiung something like windows movie maker) and then uploading it to the site and just giving users a direct link to the file for example www.yoursite.com/movie1.wmv . This should open windows media player and the movie will buffer and then the person should be watching the clip. If you dont have your own webspace then you coule upload your video to one of these sites http://www.putfile.com/ http://photobucket.com/ http://video.google.com/ Hope this is the answer you were lookin for
Thanks for the tip on Windows Movie Maker. That worked. But just putting a link to the files gives me the open or save dialog and choosing open downloads the entire file first before running. Not a problemm for broadband connections as now the file is only 1Mb. But I was hoping for something that would cause the file to start playing immediately before it has finished downloading. Thanks!
Uploading to photbucket any of those sites will download and play at the same time. Or you can convert to a .fla using flash 8 video encoder and then enmbedd that video into your webpage but thats alot of work especially for a 1mb file (which should load fast on most connections)
