I think I can help you a bit.
You have the slimline ps2 right?? Do you already have all the parts (minimum 3) installed in the right position??
If you do (or you think you do) here are the steps to run backup games:
    1. Put the swap magic dvd to your ps with the DVD door open, and turn on your PS2
    2. By the time your TV shows "load program" and "Video Mode:Normal" screen, the dvd should stop
    3. change your swap magic with your backup game, and press X (you can close the dvd door if you want)
It should run smoothly afterwards, however, there are some games that aren't compatible with swap magic.
    Try this out first

thats not the problem, i 3 tool pieces are not working. when i turn on the ps2 the disc does not spin. but when i hold down tool a and c it starts to spin but that does not help. tried so many times, taking them in and out but still nothing, and ive checked all of the user guides out there and none of them are to in-depth

    Oh ok then
I think tool a is a bit too big (in size) and tool c just keep popping up.
for tool c, just hold it down and use duct tape to keep it down. That little weasel pissed me off too
as for tool a, chip off a bit of it's plastic. just make sure it's chipped enough so it can plug the hole perfectly. If you chipped too much, it can be easily fix with duct tape too.
This method worked with my PS2 just fine. I had the exact same problem before too. My warning just be very careful on chipping tool a.
