Hey, Ive just softmodded my Wii and everything went fine I followed Larry's guide. I acquired Super Mario Galaxy to test out my softmod, Im sure the iso I downloaded is fine, I burned at 2x speed and used a blank Sony DVD-R. I put the disc into my Wii at the home screen and i get a message saying I need to update my wii I didnt do that as Larry's guide says dont upgrade to 4.2 and im assuming thats what my Wii wants me to do. Any way I can play my game? Thanks in advance Sammy p.s Sorry if these questions are nooby im new to the whole wii softmod thing.
Did you try running the game using neo gamma 7? that should fix it. i ran mario galaxy usng that and it was fine. i have 4.1 also
Okay I used the Neo Gamma (Feel pretty stupid now lol) and it runs fine up until the part when Browser starts lifting the castle from the ground, the video starts to stutter and then a message pops up saying can not read the disk please refer to wii manual(cannot play any further). Evrything about the game is okay when I controll Mario all is well, its just when I get to the video parts it stutters, any fixes or anything im doing wrong?
dvd-r discs use image burn on 2.4x speed, mario galaxy has a fix on larrylj's guide if you use the DOP-IOS and scroll through them all, one of them is intended for Mario Galaxy. check it out its in the new guide, and try another rip verbitam discs dvdr on imgburn 2.4x.
Burn with IMGBurn at half the rated speed of the media (make sure you use quality DVD-R media like Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden). Burning to slow can be just as bad as burning to fast. Nothing in my guide will actually fix this issue. But I would still recommend following the DOP-IOS part of the guide if you haven't yet. Keep in mind that some games might stutter at cut-scenes when using a disc backup loader due to the drive only reading at 3x speed. If you want faster load speeds "with no stutters" and want to avoid what type of media to get and what speed to burn them at then I would recommend getting a USB Loader and USB HDD to play your games.
Okay Ive tried The Conduit and that works fine I use Sony DVD-R 1x-16x compatible. I burnt The Conduit with Clone CD at 1x speed, I followed everything in your guide to the tee Larry, patched every IOS you listed. Anything else I should try? I dont think the ISO's bad I got it from a well known uploader I got the Conduit from the same uploader (ESPAL) Thanks for your help everyone.
It could be that you are burning at such an extremely slow rate. I would suggest 4X at least given that you have 16X-supported discs. Also, you might want to give Imgburn a whirl. It is a freeware burning engine. Please keep in mind that I am not implying that there is a right speed for burning backups. In any case, your results will always depend on three things: 1. Disc quality 2. Wii drive preference 3. type of DVD writer you have. That's why it is suggested that you run games using USB loaders, so that the integrity of the ISOs are not degraded.
It is ironic that I suggested USB loaders, because I personally boot my backups directly from the disc channel or via Neogamma .
Okay thank you, will try buring it with IMGburn and at 4x I have a 4GB Kingston Data traveller but thats about it heh, not sure if I can fit any Wii games onto that. Can anyone provide a link on how to use USB loaders please. Thanks to everyone for your help, really appreciate it.
