Hi, Whilst on holiday i bought a BTC 1004 DVD +/- R Writer. It took me ages to find which dvds would be compatible etc. I found the verbatim 4x -R discs to be fully compatible with this writer, and the discs seem to work well on ps2 and standalone players. However that isnt the reason im writing on here. Recently the drive has become slow. When using dvd x copy before it would take take roughly 15 mins read, 15 mins write. Now its taking between 40 mins and an hour just to read! and then the same again to write! Also when ive used dvd shrink 3.1 to rip the dvds to my computer then burn them to dvd using nero, i find they fail when being burnt in nero, whereas before this did not happen Ive not changed any settings or installed and new software etc, so wondered if anyone had an idea of what the problem is!? Also, What seems to be the best dvd-writer thats compatible with most media and most players? I might look into getting a new writer but dont want to waste money on trying new media that doesnt work all the time etc. Sorry for the long story, but had to be done!! cheers Jonas
Try the following to see if there is a firmware update to speed up the process http://forum.rpc1.org/portal.php www.cdfreaks.com or btc official web site As for the media iam not sure as i do not have this drive maybe someone else who has this drive will be able to recomend you better than i have regarding all. Hi Jonas7, It sounds like Windows turned off the DMA settings on your IDE channels. Go to device manager and look at both IDE channels. They should be set for DMA IF AVAILABLE. If they say PIO, change them back. If they won't change, remove them, reboot and let Windows reinstall them. Jerry
Jerry, Thanks for your message, checked device man. and they were both set at DMA?? ANy other ideas. Ive also posted another message about a problem ive got with nero 6, if u could find that and help with that, i would be most grateful!! Thanks again Jonas
You can try removing your burner drive in device manager and let Windows reinstall that also. That will correct and problems with the drive itself. Also make sure nothing in running in the background on startup like an antivirus program. The dvd backup needs complete use of the system when burning. Make sure you don't have Nero's INCD program installed. That seems to try and take full control of your burner all the time. Some members can use it, others have nothing but problems with it. Depends on your system. Jerry Jerry
