im using: windows xp sony dvd DRU-510A DVD Shrink Nero 6 Philips dvd751 (compatible) standalone Ok here is my situation. i have burt many backups and some have failed. i have noticed that when i shrink a movie in full version (keeping the menu screen) and change the video quality, take out certain sound tracks and subtitles, then burn, it has problems in my stand alone getting past the main menu (nothing is highlighted for navigation, thus not being able to select play and also nothing happens when i press play on remote and unit). When i use shrink to decrypt a DVD-5 movie in order to back up i dont downgrade the quality or uncheck any boxes, almost a straight copy. This is done in full version of shrink. The DVD-5 to DVD-5 works perfectly in my stand alone, functional menus and all. Next i used shrink in the re-authoring mode. i clicked and dragged only the main feature to be decrypted (while lowering the video quality slightly and taking off some of the un-needed sound tracks to fit on a 5 dvd-r), decrypted it and then burnt. So long story short when i dont mess with any settings in shrink, in full version, works perfectly. when i change setting in full version shrink and burn my stand alone will not get past the main menu. when i re-author just the feature, messing with the settings or not, it players perfectly in my stand alone. All ways work on pc. Does anybody have any suggestions? my stand alone player does reads dvd-r's. Im wordering if the settings are correct in my Nero 6 or DVDShrink? if anybody has a clue please help. Or maybe a link to help would be wonderful as well. needless to say i have several coasters.
This may sound odd but I have the same standalone. It would not play what I call shorts. That is a movie or re author that doesn't equal close to 4.7 gig. My solution for this on the DVD-R only, (This doesn't work on DVD+R)is to very carefully take a black permanent marker and go around the outside edge of the "UNBURNED" area of the DVD, being very careful NOT TO GO INTO THE DATA!!! I then put the DVD in and it does play!It is a little slow to get the menu but try it. I guess it fools the player. Thr way I discovered this was with DVD-RW It acted the same way the first time but after I burned something again on it, it worked! Good Luck! __X_X_X_X_X_[small]RC[/small]
well RCA i ran into that very broblem backing up a copy of the movie KIDS. I tried your suggestions three different time with no success on any attempt. it sounds like a good idea but for some reasone, and no matter how perfect i assume, it doesnt work. thnx any more suggestions?
well i have tried your method for the fourth time now rca with no success. maybe you would be so kind and expain again in more detail for i would be much thankful. if anyone else would like to tackle this obsticle feel free
I guess my solution is exclusive to me. ME,ME,ME.......ME TOO, I hope! I found that if a movie or disk is conciderably, shorter than the capacity of a 4.7 gig disk,no good. short does matter. If for exaple you burn a disk at < 4.3 gig approx of data thet it is all the way to the outside of the platter GOOD. If you backup a disk in full that is , say 3.7 gig that is when I get in trouble! My model 751 with the latest firmware (I checked it)just don't get it. It just looks, then finally ejects. Then 1 day I got a wild idea, I remember reading about a security type disk and some 99 cent pen. I did find that this only pertains to DVD-R (MINUS) media it did NOT work for + media. If I were you I would do a couple of things, first I would invest in some RW media to experiment with rather than $2.00 a failure. I might add that I did experience the same result with RW (Rewritable) on the first burn. After I re wrote the disk the second time ,even with a short disk it still worked. Get some RW for your format and try it. I am running DVD shrink 2.3 and 3.0 beta. Windows 2000 and a dual format +/- burner (generic) I can"t understand why you are having these hangs. As an experiment I would get RW- media and try to do a re-author instead of a full disk. Burn it with a full movie, something that needs shrinking first. then quick erase it. Reuse it to copy short disk and it should work. I don't mark my RW disks with marker, but I do use them as test pilots.I gave up on the menus sometimes. If the movie is short then you must take care!! Re -author on-(minus) media and mark the unburned area witha black pen CAREFULLY!!! Warbbles OK as long as no intrusion into the DATA AREA!!! Good luck__X_X_X_X_X_[small]RC[/small]
well a couple of things. i would like to start by saying thanks to you guys for taking the time to guide me through these tough begining stages of burning, i have learned so much at such an exponential rate. i would like to send a special thanks, on this particular thread, to rca. thanks man. now, would you recomend firmware for the dvd751 rca? if so which site and which ones. i have yet to update. third, im going to give the whole dvd-rw thing a trial run sooner then later, so ill give an update on the shorty experiment to keep you posted. coooooooo
