OK I'll try and get everything clear and straight in one post. Here is my problem, which may not be one after all. Strange I know. I just installed a sony dru-820a dvd dual-layer burner and use nero v 7.2.0.3.
I proceeded to burn 3 avi files as data onto a memorex 16x dvd+r blank disc. The first thing i noticed that i have never seen before was the message 'book type automatically set to dvd-rom'at the start of the burn. Then at the end of the burn i saw a few messages i have never seen before.
The first said 'reset occurred' and then 'could not perform end of disc at once' followed by 'burn process failed'. Here's the kicker: after ejecting the disc i decided to throw it into my stand alone player for the hell of it, and all the files were accounted for and played back. I double checked and the beginning and end of each file played back fine. So my quesetion is, why did nero tell me the burn failed when it actually didnt? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Here is my log file from the burn:

I have a DRU-820a and it has been very kind to me. Sorry but I don't read or understand those logs very well; maybe some one else can help with those.

    Things I did notice are:

You used memorex disks, most here do not favor them.

My unit came with 6.6.0.18 Nero, been reading here that later versions are buggy. You might want to uninstall Nero, download 6.6.0.18, and use your SN when you install the 'older' version.

You did not mention burn speed, but you should burn at half the rated speed, ie. 8X for your 16X disks.

    Do you have DMA enabled?

Book type set to DVD-ROM for +R media IS a good idea.

Rulisky is giving some good advice, but let me elaborate a little.

The Nero version you are using could be buggy, try 7.0.8.2b here:

    http://my.afterdawn.com/locoeng/blog_entry.cfm/280

DMA is off for the bottom two drives which could drag down your HDD and burner...fix this via this guide by alkohol:

    http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/260038

You don't want to use multisession, select no multisession.

As Rulisky stated, CMC Mags are trash pile qualified discs. Try some quality Verbatims (MIJ or MIT) or Sony, Fuji, Maxell, Taiyo Yuden (MIJ). As a general rule of thumb stay away from media made in Taiwan, with the exception of Verbatim.

But to answer some of your questions

This is a good thing, Nero will automatically booktype your DVD+R discs for you to DVD-ROM. Booktyping is a way of writing to a disc that tricks your stand alone player into thinking it is reading a commercial DVD (store bought movie), thus increasing compatability across different machines.

We are talking about computers here...they just do strange things sometimes. The errors may or may not effect the burn or the quality of the burn. You may at times see a message at the end of your log that states the burn was completed successfully, but the resulting disc will be unplayable in any drives or devices that you try. Nero is a big complicated suite of programs that needs an extremely stable environment to work in and produce consistent results.
