Either onboard or PCI sound...make sure you have the latest chipset drivers installed before you install the sound drivers.

can you detect it? if not maybe you need to install the cd that was included when you bought your motherboard.

If you can hear sound on your computer and play music like mp3s and listen to videos and such, your onboard sound is fine and does not need to have the drivers reinstalled. Onboard audo is usually not as high quality as a seperate audio card and may not have the function available that your looking for. If you have accessed the mixer device before but now it does not work, you may have a problem with your drivers. You will have to find your motherboard Cd and use that to reinsatll the drivers. If you have recently messed with your bios settings it is possible to have turned the onboard audio off, and you should check your bios settings to make sure the onboard audio is selected.

Ok my friend, first you need to go to: start\control panel\performance and maintenance\system\hardware\device manager. Then go to sound, video and game controlers and tell me the name of everything there and finaly the brand, model of your motherboard. Then I will be able to help you out.

Ok from what I can see, you dont have a driver for your:Realtek ALC883 7.1 channel CODEC with High Definition Audio. You can get it here, http://www.asrock.com/support/download.asp?Model=K8NF4G-VSTA
There is two of them, get the windows xp one if you have widows xp and if you have windows xp 64bit get the windows xp 64bit one. When you download it you just double click one it and follow the insrtuctions. Let me know what happen.

OK what happend in the installation process? Thats kinda ord, try to do it again, and go to the bios to see if its enabled, if it is enabled, disable it, restart the comp and enable it to see if you can get to instal the driver.
