First you musy synchronize the subtitle.
To see if it works you can load movie + its SRT subtitle with BSPlayer.
Any synchronization stuff can be done with SubTool or Subtitle Workshop.

Once the sub is synchronized you can either:

    1) permanently encode the subtitle frameserving VirtualDub's output to your DVD movie encoder (you need to learn to use the 'resize' filter first, then the 'subtitler' filter ).
My sugegstion is, if you start with a X x Y movie:
    Video___Filter --> Add (Resize)
    New width = 720
    New heigth = (X/720)*Y
Expand frame and liter box image:
    Frame width = 720
Frame heigth = 480 (NTSC) or 576 (PAL).

To use the subtiter filter you need to use the application SSA Converter (SRTtoSSA) since the Subtiter filter needs a SSA file, not a SRT, giving:
    - Font Format: ARial 28 bold
    - Distance to the borders: change bottom putting , for instance, 25 or 30.
    - Subtitle colour: all white
Press <convert> and load the SSA file from VirtualDub's filter.

(for VirtualDub's frameserving you just have to use auxsetup.exe and select [install handler], then don't do Fils___Save but File___Star frame server.
Your encoder will just have to load [bold]movie.vdr [/bold] instead of [bold]movie.avi[/bold] (with VirtualDub which works remaining hidden in the taskbar).

    2) convert SRT -> SUP with SRT2SUP and then add selectable subtitles to your DVD when authoring it with IFOEdit [loading the video (MPV), the audio (MP2/AC3) and the subtitle (SUP)].
The stuff is explained in or \guides page, but is a little difficult because you have to use a specific authoring application (IFOEdit) which needs to have audio and video multiplexed (MPG = MPV+MPA).

    Hope this helps....
