Hi. I've been reading guides and forum posts here for a couple of years, but this is my first post as a member.

Up till now I've primarily been backing up DVDs using AnyDVD & CloneDVD2 (works great!). But recently I've been trying to use AutoGK for Xvid/Divx coding of my DVDs.

I followed the directions on guides here, at the AutoGK tutorial site, and the Doom9 guide. Encoding works fine, except for the whole "forced subtitle" thing. I have been trying with the DVD for Traffic, which is in English but has Spanish language scenes. So I wanted these to show up on the Xvid. I decided to use Traffic because the AutoGK site specifically mentions it as using forced subtitles.

I select the appropriate IFO (with accompanying VOB) files as created by CloneDVD2. These files play fine with PowerDVD, with accurate subs, so I know there isn't a problem with the DVD rip.

I've tried with every English subtitle stream available on the DVD, with "Forced Subtitle Only" option checked AND unchecked. I do not choose external subtitles because this file will be played on a standalone that doesn't accept externals. Every guide assures me that I should be able to create an avi that has these occasional "forced" subtitles show up.

The subtitles never show up, not in the preview, and not after the full (2 hour) AutoGK encoding process. I've been trying for days now and I am pulling out my hair in frustration. I've even tried to see if I could just get the full subtitle set (ie. subs for both the English and Spanish audio), and I got nothing.

What could I be doing now? Is it because I use CloneDVD-generated IFO & VOB files and not DVD Decrypter, and if so why wouldn't these files work?

Any help would be appreciated, as there are lots of my DVDs I wish to encode that feature scenes that are in languages other than English.

    Cheers
    k

    Thanks for the reply, attar.

I checked the VOB files in DVDSubEdit and they are definitely there. There are several subtitle streams, including a couple that are only for the Spanish parts of the film. Also, the subtitles DO show up when I play the DVD VOB files in PowerDVD and in WMP.

I have also been able to use subrip to create an .srt for the 'forced subtitle' stream. However, for personal reasons, I really want to know how to use AutoGK to add the subs without needing to create an external .srt. Just can't figure out how to get 'em on there.
