Hi..I was wonndering if anyone has had any success in backing up the Movie 'Holes". I recently bought this for my kids and before it gets trashed I would like to back it up. But I seem to be having ALOT of problems here. Whenever I burn it it seems to just skip from chapter to chapter. Now im not really new to this. I have so far backed up over 200 DVD successfully. And with this movie I have tried ripping with both DVD Decrypter (versions 3.1.4 and 3.1.6) and Smart Ripper. Both in File mode and ISO mode. Then I have used DVD2ONE. Then for burning I have tried Nero 5.5.9.17 and RecordNow DX. All of these I use all the time with no problems. I even tried using a different movie to make sure it wasnt my burner and the other movie worked fine. So it seems to be just this movie. My Hardware is as follows..
    Dell 1.8 ghz P4
    512 MB RDRAM
    Sony DRU-500AX
My DVD Players are all Sony DVP-NS315
Anyone who has done this movie successfully could you let me know how you did it?
    Thanks in advance!

P.S. I have also used different types of Media to do this and they all do the same thing.

Ok..New message here. After 2 days of trying I got it to work. For some reason after compressing the movie with DVD Decrypter the IFO and BUP files were nessed up. I was able to get it right with DVD Shrink but I dont like the quality I get with that one so I used DVD Decrypter and then made nw IFO and BUP files with IFOedit. Has anyone else ever had this problem when trying to backup a DVD where the navigation is messed up for no apparent reason?

Hmmm, strange that is, I have never experienced that but thats one to look out for.....

Only reason I can see for that is you had a misread, maybe the disc is dirty OR scratched.....

OR have you got 'ignore read errors checked' in Dvd Decrypter, if so uncheck it and give it another run......may work.....

I have 'ignore read errors' unchecked and have never had any read issues.....

Thanks BaaBaa..I just looked and the box is unchecked. The disk looks fine but your right. It does seem like a Dirty disk or something. I didnt really think about that because the disk is only a few days old. Maybe its just a bad disk. It just seem'd strange that the 1st try with DVD Shrink it worked without a hitch. I also used DVD Shrink to decrypt the movie. Im wondering if it does something different in the decryption process than Smartripper and DVD Decrypter...In any case..I FINALLY got a working copy!...lol Im happy and the kids are happy. It was just driving me nuts that I couldnt figure it out.
    Thanks for the input!

Oh..and by the way..In my previous post I said "After compressing with DVD Decrypter"..I meant I was using DVD2ONE

Actually what I meant to say was that I use v 3.1.6 and do not have 'detect mastering errors' checked - I think this is basically read errors....

Glad to hear you got it going in the end....

Ifoedit STILL has it's uses and the create IFO's is one of them.....

The good thing is there are 3 main rippers which you can choose from, and usually you can get one of the proggy's to work.

I have never had any issues with ripping, I just use Dvd Decrypter.

It is always better just to have a quick tilt of the disc towards the light before ripping just to see if there are any possible marks which could cause a problem......

If you have a look at my signature at the bottom of my posts, this is the likely cause of the problem - here today for a bit of mischief then leave without a trace.....I am still trying to make peace with the little blighters.....LOL

    All the best....Baaaaa!

Use CloneDVD to transcode/burn and AnyDVD to decrypt the DVD. Excellent software that can backup nearly anything!

What tyoe of media are you trying to burn on to as this is normally the main culprit of skipping discs.

The Original Disk I burned was a Maxell DVD-R.
When I tried to play the movie it just jumped from chapter to chapter. So for testing different solutions to the problem I have a set of Test disks. I used Verbatim +RW and Princo -RW. Both of these did the same thing until I used DVD Shrink. Then I used the same disks and re-wrote over them and they worked fine...The thing is..I use Several different type of disks and I have never had a problem burning to any of them. Princo, Maxell, Sony, Optidisc and something that just comes up as DW..lol I get alot of cheap disks on auction so I figure I'll give them a try. I read alot on here about disk quailty and all..But I have to say..It seems anything I put it the burner will 98% of the time work fine. And the ones that dont I usually end up finding out that the problem was in my transcoding or I try to do too many other things with the computer while the disk is burning...Thanks for all your advice on this matter!

P.S. I love the Reaper! lol
