I hope that I'm posting in the right section...

My problem is simple: when I try to play a video in Windows Media Player 11, all I see is a small, purple box. I am able to hear the audio, but not the picture. I thought that this might be a codec problem, but I downloaded a complete codec pack and that didn't solve the problem.

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Tarek

Get the K Lite Mega Codec pack.

Try VLC player(freeware). It's less bloated that WMP, and was very recently updated.

I went ahead and downloaded the K Lite Mega Codec pack, but it didn't change anything. I then dled the VLC player, and that did indeed play my videos. Thanks for that.

Is there perhaps any other solution that would get WMP to function properly?

Typically, i don't WMP for the simple fact it's a lunky bloated media player. If the K-Lite pack didn't solve your issue i would venture to say that the file may be incompatible with WMP.

I almost strictly use VLC for movie/video viewing. It's a great little program.
