ok i got a zune little over a year ago. came with that 14 day trial to the zune marketplace. so i downloaded alot of stuff. Since then that trial has expired and all that music was on a external usb hard drive i just plugged in last night. Now when i try to play them it says media right usage and they wont play at all now. Is their anyway around that. or are they just encrypted so after 14days u can no longer play them again. Another thing that stinks is i bought a couple songs from marketplace to with my MS points. Those no longer play either because the marketplace no longer carrys that artist.
NO not to my knowledge. There are plenty of ways to remove DRMs before they expire. You basically, play the music and recapture it. Some apps do this all with logical devices so they can run at 50X but they still have to 'play' the music. I believe there was an app that didn't have to play the music but I think that was taken off the market. I would NEVER store DRMed tunes. What happens is even with the permanently good DRMs they stop being supported after a while. M$ has stopped supporting the earlier DRMs. You should expect the same from the Zune store. How you like your Zune? They may be the last product to use quality hard disks. However, the Zune has a proprietary interface with the computer and the software has a very bad rep as being way too stupid.
