what type of drive is the seagate as in ide, sata or scsi? what hd controller is in the dell as in ide or sata?
From Maximum PC, August 2005, page 57. "Taming the SATA Beast" article. I tried finding a better pic out there, but this one suits the discussion. All rights reserved to Maximum PC.
If that is correct, than you know what ddp is gonna say next don't cha?? If they are both SATA drives, they'll each have to be plugged into their own perspective ports on the motherboard. SATA1, SATA2...etc, etc, are for single drive use. (daisy chaining SATA drives is in the works)
i cant seem to find the ports on the motherbroad that fits the cable there is not enuff pins on the motherbroad EDIT: i mean the little holes in the cable and there is not enuff of those pins in the motherbroad the cable has like 40little holes but the port on the motherboard has only 38(mayb 36)
the cable should go in the same kind of slot that your cd drives connect to. there is a smaller slot aswell but thats for floppy drives. if it definately doesnt fit in the same slot that the cd drives go in then perhaps its a scsi drive
yes i knw the cable can hold two drives but the dell drive(the pic on the left) has different cable then my seagate drive
if youd been clever about it you would have found out what kind of connection you needed before you bought the drive. have you actually tried to put it on the same connectors the cd drives are using yet? the drives can be of different connection you know that wont cause a problem
