Why does my computer detect my ipod shuffle as a hard drive?? and when i try to update my ipod using ipod updater.. the updater does not detect my ipod serial code. :c how can i fix this problem? using windows os.. here's the link.. http://img66.imageshack.us/my.php?image=najqx4.jpg
I can't tell you exactly why your iPod isn't being recognized by the updater, but your computer is recognizing it as a hard drive because it was forced into disk mode. Look up on the Apple website how to force the iPod Shuffle into disk mode, and try that, then try restoring it again.

sorry to say, your shuffle is dead, same thing happened to me. i couldn't update it. the lights didn't come on, when i pluged it in i got a install new hardware error and there was nothing i could do, i took it to apple and told them it "froze". they replaced it. after i got a mini. then a video. ipods are great! =]
