    Hi,

Could anybody give me any tips for removing a virus described by AVG as Heur.dropper. I have researched it on google and tried a few things.

    1. AVG is unable to remove it - it just keeps popping up in AVG.
    2. I have started the computer in safe mode and ran Malaware. It found 3 threats and removed them. However, when I rebooted the problem still exists.

    Any help appreciated,

    Regards,

    James

    Fix entries using HiJackThis

    Launch HiJackThis
Click the Do a system scan only button
Put a check next to the entries listed below (if they still remain)

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [vavplkk] C:\WINDOWS\system32\vavplkk.exe \u

IMPORTANT: Do NOT click fix until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now
Click the Fix checked button and close HiJackThis

Download and install File ASSASSIN from here:
    http://www.snapfiles.com/get/fileassassin.html

Use FileASSASSIN to navigate to and delete:
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\vavplkk.exe

    Next:
Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop.

Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
    • At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
    • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
    • Once the program has loaded, select Perform full scan, then click Scan.
    • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected. <-- Don't forget this.
    • When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location. The log can also be found here: C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs\log-date.txt

    • Please post the MBAM Log and a fresh HJT log in your next reply.
