for single layer DVD5s: at 2.4x: 22-24 minutes at 4X: 14-15 minutes at 8X: 8-10 minutes This assumes your burner is in DMA transfer mode and not PIO mode. This is burn time only. Add 12-25 (or more) minutes for decrypting and encoding before burning.
If your DVD burner is an internal one, make sure the Direct Memory Access (DMA) transfer mode is enabled. OK, I glossed over that. Burning a VCD (CD) should take a minutes or two at most with most drives at 32X or 48X. At what speed are you burning?
Whatever program you are using will give you an option for selecting the burn speed for the CD based on the speeds your CD burner offers and the speeds allowed by the media. A speed of 2X will take quite a while to burn a CD while a speed of 48X will be very quick. It shouldn't take 3 hours to burn a CD.
ahhh i see.my cd burner speed is 52x32x52x . what do you mean bye the speeds allowed by the media.???... btw im using a low memory in my pc does it affect on the slowness of my burning process??
CD media has a rated speed as well. Some older CD media won't burn above 24X for example, so that will be reflected in the speeds available for burning. Your burner likely has a maximum write speed of 52x, a maximum read speed of 52X, and a maximum rewrite speed of 32X for rewriteable media. However if the particular media has a rated speed of 24X, that will be the fastest speed at which it may be burned. More memory is always better than less but it shouldn't be the cause of your extremely slow burning speeds. Reset the burner and transfer modes by doing the following: (I assume you are using WinXP) Right click on My Computer and select Properties. Click the Hardware tab. Click the Device Manager button. Click the "+" beside DVD/CD-ROM Drives. Right click on the name of your CD burner and select Uninstall. Click OK. Still in Device Manager: Click the "+" beside IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers. Right click on the Primary Channel and select Uninstall. Click OK. Right click on the Secondary Channel and select Uninstall. Click OK.
I think remove = uninstall in win98 but it's been years since I've used 98 and I don't remember for sure. Is there an IDE/ATAPI ATA Controllers line in your Device Manager display/listing? If so look to see what the transfer mode is set to for the controller for your CD burner, likely the Secondary IDE Channel. If it is already DMA then you don't have to do anything.
I don't remember for sure but can you right click on the name of the CD burner and select properties? Is there a Settings tab? If so click on it. Is there a place to enable DMA mode? If so, do it if not selected.
That's good, so transfer mode is probably not an issue. Why it takes 3 hours to burn a CD is still a mystery however. I just don't remember enough about Win98 to be of much help.
btw i have something to say my previous speed in burning movie is 8 hours it became 3 hours when i downloaded k-lite codec pack..
