I have a few questions for you guys, who are experts or nearly so in this field. first which of these two processors is better or at which jobs each of them is better : Intel Pentium 4 processor 640 with HT technology vs AMD Athalon 64 3200+ processor second is which of these video cards is better: GeForce 6600 GT 128mb vs ATI Radeon x700 Pro 128mb DDR third is which of these ram's is better: 512MB Dual Channel DDR PC-3200 SDRAM 400MHz vs 1GB Dual Channel DDR2 PC-4300 SDRAM 533MHz I am not very good with hardware so help a fellow out (btw i am aiming for a gaming machine, but a more detailed info on which part is better for which jobs would be most welcome). Thanks.
Well the Intel is more of a multitasking processor and handles basic operations very well but it tends to get really hot. The AMD is fast and cool and really more for a gaming rig. The video cards, well I'm bias so i will say ATI is better but you may want to find out which has a faster clock speed and how many pipelines each come with. Also is it for AGP or PCI-EX? The 1 GIG of memory is better than the 512 but if your going for DDR2 then you are going to go for an intel system, b/c I havent seen any AMD mobo's that support DDR2
My MSI board supports DDR. I don't know of any of the new boards that don't! Athlon are the best for gaming, I prefer nvidia chipset graphics card, I just think that driver support is far superior. You really need to go SLi, so you should get a PCI-Express card. This will help in keeping your PC as future proof as possible. 1gig PC3200 will suit the AMD chip. It all boils down to your budget! For gaming you need to get a good card. The card will make or break your system. Pulsar
the only problem i see with ATI, is some times it isnt quite compatible with games. I dont know about all games, but for instance Call of Duty and Call of Duty: United Offensive has a problem being played on ATI gpus. I dont know about other games. But i prefer NVIDIA. And the processor, last i heard AMD was only good for online play, compaired aginst intel.
The 640 is a good CPU but am not sure how it would compare to a 64, if ya have the cash you should get a Pentium D, less than £200 in the UK and i would say it would be more of a match for the 64 than the 640 CPU. The 640 supports HT, Speedstepping & EM64T, over all it's one of the best 775 P4's
heh like i said all that stuff like "775 p4's" doesn't make much sense to me. Okey i'l put it more simple - which of alienware pc's is better. Area-51 5500 or Aurora 5500 for reference: http://alienware.co.uk/Product_Pages/desktop_all_gaming.aspx
thats easy get the amd 64 try to get atleast a 3500, get the 6600gt and 1 gig of pc3200 ram you will have more fun and less problems no matter what you do with your computer! edit. and don't buy no alienware save a grand and build it yourself.
STOP!! dont buy from alienware.com , they have the worst customer support, and it takes forever with delivery, you can buy an alienware if you would like, just dont buy it from their dot.com,
