Hi, does any one know a totally free Avi to MPEG converter?

Ok,I'm new at this...And I just started to make a video, but my program Windows Movie Maker,won't take Avi files.So I installed some codecs,but nothing changed. And some one told me that I should convert my Avi file.So I'm looking for a totally free program ^_^ Please help.

 

I use anyvideoconverter to convert avi to mpg.

but it only converts for 18%,I must have done something wrong...

Don't know, never used it. This used to be quite good and easy. The old but free version of ConvertXtoDVD: http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/video_encoders/vso_divxtodvd_free.cfm

Well, the program worked, so thanx for that ^_^
But, now I was putting the file in Windows Movie Maker,
and (again) says that I don't have the right codecs...
How do i have to put them there?

The K-Lite Codec Pack (Full) should contain every Codec you need and you can choose which parts to install http://home.hccnet.nl/h.edskes/mirror.htm or this Codec should play the vast majority of files: http://www.free-codecs.com/download/Koepi_XviD.htm Don't know but you may need an AC3 Filter with XVID. Just run AC3 Filter if you do, Codec's can conflict so don't install K-Lite and another.
