CompUSA has Hi-Val's for sale at $30 this Friday. Does anyone know what type of DVD+RW they are? I assume they're rebadged.
Last I heard, they were being made by Benq and the model # is 1640 which is a very sweet drive.Rebadge or genuine,if you had the fw version on it that'd explain more details about that actual drive. For $30, I'd take a chance on them. I tried to find another 1640,but the 1650 replaced them. The rebadge 1640s are still out there: Philips makes 1 model/Plextor 740/ and Sony dru 810? or 820 are rebadge benq 1640. I just may have to check out that website friday. Always nice having an extra benq 1640. These are high quality, booktyping dvd-rw drives. Is that after rebate?
Thanks, How could I tell once I open the box to find out if it's a BenQ or whatever? It's $29.99 after $25 instant rebate and $25 mail-in rebate. Here's the ad: http://f.chtah.com/i/45/143882431/35799CrazyC_MMemail-screen.pdf
When you open it out of the box,it may say Benq 1640 on the back of the drive. Or,when you install it,device manager will tell you it's a Benq 1640. There was a thread around a month old in the Dvd +/- r drives section talking about that same Comp USA Hi-Val burner. I know catfreak said they were benqs. I'll have to try to find it. $25 rebate? Bummer.
