My camcorder is a Sony DCTRV 238, and I want to convert my home Hi8 tapes to DVD.I'm using the i-link (Firewire) connection, and before I start, I'd like to know if I need anything else (hardware) to capture, and which software, apart from Windows moviemaker is recommended? Are freewares as good as non-free softwares?

My fav at the moment is adobe elements 2.0, bit of a learning curve but can burn your projects to dvd, add virtually any format,. I do also like movie maker though you can only create a file, then have to use seperate software to author to dvd format. You can also download a trial of elements at adobe after giving a few personal details.
