I'm not sure this is the right forum, forgive me if its not. I want to put movies from a Sony camcorder to DVD. It's a HI 8 camcorder. I have Nero OEM with some updates but it would only allow me to put it on VCD and the quality sucked. I downloaded a trial version of Intervideo WinDVD Creator 2 and it does a bit better. At least it lets me put it on DVD. The quality is better but I think it can be done better. Is there any better software out there that will allow me to capture the video and place it on DVD with good quality. I understand I'll never get DVD quality from a tape but this should be better than what I have now. Would the full version of Nero 6 Ultra work ? I have the OEM version and know the software, just havent wanted to come off the 70 bucks to upgrade. Thanks in advance for any input, ya'll rock.

i dont think hi8 ...or anything thats not already digital is very popular with us young ppl anymore so there arent many guides/info around on it ...all i can say is that if you can get a 'raw' (dun really know what that means when taking it from hi8 so basically hi quality didgital copy) on your hd you can use a better encoder than the ones built into these all in one tools here ar some (cce and tmpgenc are generally considered the best for mpeg-2 encoding -thats what you need for dvd):

...as far as free encoders i believe quenc then freenc are the best quality but both pretty slow
