Hi guys can anyone help me - my daughter has a new laptop (not brand new but new to her) and it does not have hibernate or standby as an option when shutting down. Does anyone know how i can sort this for her as full shut down each time takes ages and she uses it a lot for homework etc. It is an Acer travelmate 290e running win xp if that helps many thanks in advance cheers
no, my home pc can do that but thats my point - the new laptop does not have this as an option at all !!!
Hey, no problem. If you can help him out, then great. After all, that the "name of the game" here at AfterDawn.....
You need to download display/graphic drivers, http://support.acer-euro.com/drivers/notebook/t40/tm_290.html
thanks andrew - I agree I think to reinstall drivers but dont know which ones - thanks for that link and is it just the one that says intel graphics driver version 5.1 ? or will I need others too ?? thanks again
Hi again Andrew - Ive downloaded the zipped file from that link now but it wont unzip and just keeps telling me the files are corrupt. Any other ideas or do you know where I can get them from elsewhere thanks for all your help I thought I had it in the bag then :-(
Have you tried to do a Windows update then selected optional updates sometimes windows include drivers for hardware especially standard Intel hardware. or try downloading from download.com
Try http://rapidshare.de/files/38161780/vga.zip.html If that still doesnt work then open it with Winrar. Windows Update might also have the files.
thanks Andrew u r an absolute star - I managed to unzip the files from the link you provided now just need to apply the drivers to the laptop and keep everything crossed that it works I'll let you know how I get on Thanks again
right - just installed the drivers on to laptop and it worked a treat Thanks so much for everyones help and especially Andrew for saving my stress levels I owe you one
No probs, we're here to help You might also want to check for any other uninstalled hardware by opening device manager. Open start menu and click "Run" type devmgmt.msc then press enter. Look for any yellow question marks or anything thats having a problem. If theres nothing then all is good, but if there is something then more drivers will be needed to from that Acer site if you want other hardware to work. I for one had huge problems getting drivers for my Acer laptop, it was sold to me with Vista which it really wasnt quite powerful enough to run, so putting XP PRO on it was a major problem. Dunno if its just Acer or if its all laptops that are like this, but it gets really annoying.
