Had one of those fake antivirus programs running. Got that mostly removed, then was able to run AVG and it removed a lot of other junk. However, AVG can't remove this item:
    C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplorer.exe (2052)
    Virus identified: Win32/Cryptor

The computer 1) still runs slower than normal; 2) Won't run Spybot or Malwarebytes; and 3) Always starts up to instances of iexplorer.exe (I see that in Task Manager > Processes) but the IE window isn't running.

Thank you very much for looking at this!!!

I just realized that I typed a really odd Subject for this posting - I don't know what I was thinking, but I obviously didn't pay attention before I submitted it. I apologize.

    Hi qfloorsrc,

Your Log is showing signs of a Trojan..

You say you can’t run MBAM, that may be because of the Trojan blocking it.

Run MBAM in the Safe mode with networking so you can bypass the blockers.

    First un-install your MBAM….

Next download ATF Cleaner by Atribune & save it to your desktop. DO NOT use yet.

Reboot your computer in "Safe Mode" using the F8 method. To do this, restart your computer and during startup (but before the Windows icon appears) press the F8 key repeatedly. A menu will appear with several options. Use the arrow keys to navigate and select the option to run Windows in "Safe Mode with Networking".

Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.

    • Under Main "Select Files to Delete" choose: Select All.
    • Click the Empty Selected button.

    • If you use Firefox browser click Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
    • Click the Empty Selected button.
If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.

    • Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop.

Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
    • At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
    • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
    • Once the program has loaded, select Perform full scan, then click Scan.
    • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected. <-- Don't forget this.
    • When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location. The log can also be found here: C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs\log-date.txt

    Reboot to Normal Mode

Please post the MBAM Log and a fresh HJT log in your next reply.

    1. MBAM uninstalled successfully
    2. ATF Cleaner successfully ran in Safe Mode
    3. MBAM won't install in Safe Mode. It shows in the Processes tab of Task Manager (mbam-setup.exe), but after more than 5 minutes, it's still not installing.

I’ve been out of town a couple of days so, sorry for the delay.
You show to have a Trojan/DNS Changer and that is probably why you can’t use MBAM..

    Try the following:

Download Avira Antivir Rescue -> HERE!

    Use this Guide -> HERE!

The Avira AntiVir rescue disc worked! Thanks!

There are 3 mbam logs (sorry!). 1st run got all but one item. 2nd run got that item. 3rd run didn't find anything.

And there's a HijackThis log from after the last mbam run.

    qfloorsrc,

    I love it when a plan comes together : ) Looking good……

Use HJT to Fix this line:
    O20 - AppInit_DLLs: jylxar.dll

And then use windows explorer to search for and delete this file: jylxar.dll

That’s a leftover from the Trojan you had. If you can’t find the file, no big deal..

Everything else looks OK. No problems I hope.

HJT successfully removed O20 - AppInit_DLLs: jylxar.dll; Windows Explorer couldn't find the jylxar.dll file as you said might happen.

I've learned my lessons: I know which websites and e-mail programs to get into and which to not get into; and I believe that I know when to turn on the automated scanners in Spybot, AVG, etc. depending on the network I'll be connecting to. My daughter doesn't! I should have turned them on before letting her use the laptop! I haven't had a virus, etc. on my computers for at least 5 years until now, and don't plan on getting another.

Thank you for your help. You're the best - but you knew that already ;)
