    I've been using a little automated registry backup called ERDNT,in reality it's a replacement for system restore,tho i use both,the difference is ERDNT will restore your registry regardless if any changes were made or not,unlike syst restore that givs that pesky choose another point crap, it can also be used in your case, if restore points get corrupted they will have to be all deleted which pretty much makes syst restore useless,the first URL if link works is to it's home site,the 2nd URL is to an explanation of how it works,the only nuisance i pose is to remember to periodically clean the save folder out or it will balloon out till you have no disk space left :p
