    Hi,

Right i am trying to flash a Hitachi 47DJ drive. All i need is the drive key off it. My windows 7, WIndows Vista and XP does not detect the drive whatsoever. The only Hitachi drive my PC detects is 79 drive. I have tried the bios settings to IDE, didnt work, removing the vmraid.sys file or whatever its called in drivers, didnt work either. I have a VT6421A card installed. I can flash all other drives with no freezing even the lite-ons. But when it comes to the Hitachi 47DJ drive JF says no drive detected. Even when i go to devices and scan for hardware changes nothing, or even sometimes freezes. PLEASE HELP

Here are my specs if you require them.

    Windows 7 Home Premium,
    AMD Phenom 940 x4
    4gig ram
    Asus Crosshair II mobo,
    1 x 500gig WD hdd
    2 x 1TB WD hdd's running in stripe (2TB)
GTX 260 Nvidia Graphics Card - and as a bonus random black screens DRIVER STOPPED RESPONDING LMAO

Please if you need anymore info please ask. I have flashed over 100 Xbox 360s and never been able to do a 47DJ drive, its now time to bite the bullet and get this working.......

Are you trying Port io? Does the drive have power? Does it eject? Hitachi's can be a pain. Sometimes, it requires you actually use the windows drivers and use winapi. I usually use portIO and never have issues.

The drive works perfectly, just wanting to upgrade it to a benq as i think the laser might be on its way out.

I have portio installed, but its greyed out with winapi selected, but says 'no drive found' i dont have this problem with any other drive even the hitachi 79, only the 47 dj drive

    Its not bricked either

Thanks for getting back to me

I always have a similar experience to this when I flash Hitachi's. I find that using SLAX ro get in to mode b normally fixes it

Couple of other things I have found to work are...

Try a Different SATA port on your Via 6421a card
Try a Different PCI slot for your Via card.

    Hope this helps.

IF it's "greyed" out then it's not installed. winapi uses the windows drivers, so if they aren't enabled, then it will not find the drive. Is PORTIO32 under device manager? You do not need the SLAX disc. I've personally flashed more hitachis than I can count and never used it. PORTIO works. Make sure it's installed and you're not using a 64-bit OS. That's your problem, I would say.

Jungleflasher and Device manager confirm its installed. Just plugged in a 79FL drive thats stopped working now, unless its got 47 fw on it. I have tried using slax v2.1 to boot then restarted windows etc but never solved my issues with Hitachi's. The only prob i can think off is that avast, norton, mcafee all see portio32 as a virus of some sort. But i restore it then restart and my PC finds my drives again just not the 47DJ and now 79FL(unless like stated got 47 fw on it) drive. I have read numerous guides, tutorials and followed many instructions but never been successful with the hitachis. I am running 32bit WIndows 7.

Sorry 79 drive working now lol, mcafee had deleted the portio32 again. I uninstalled mcafee to see if this would solve the issue with 47's too but still did the exact same

Yep 79 drive freezes windows 7 now, PortIO is defo installed and is working. Flashed Benq, lite-ons and sammys all in windows and are fine. Maybe MS should release the contract back to Hitachi to release these drives again then that should solve the flashing problems. Looks like i was never meant to flash hitachis LOL

They are a right pain, managed to brick my first xbox drive the other day which was a hitachi(writing firmware not reading thankfully)

You could always try Firmware toolbox to read the firmware from your drive (dont try flash with it though, this is how I bricked mine). Also, did you follow the exact instructions to disable the via driver?

    1. Disable VIA card in Device Manager.
    2. Go to C:\WINDOWS\System32\drivers and rename "viamraid.sys" or "vsmraid.sys".
    3. Re-Enable VIA card in Device Manager.
    4. Re-Boot PC.

I forgot to reboot PC once, and port IO was greyed out like yours but still showing in device manager as OK.

Thanks miketrev, i have done the following instructions in which you have posted, thankyou again, but when i do that my jungleflasher doesnt pick up my ports only 0x's and not my EC00 or E800 which i use on my PCI card. This may solve my problems which i have been working on but just comes up with no comports detected and shows none in it. I am running windows 7 so i do believe its the vsmraid.sys. Here is my path that i delete-

    1. disable the card in manager
    2. delete this C:\Windows\System32\drivers\vsmraid.sys
    3. re-nable card
    4. reboot

Jungleflasher then reports "no comports were found during enumeration" or something along the lines. then on I/O ports it only gives me the following

    0x01F0
    0x01F0
    0x0170
    0x0170

I think your right this may solve my issue but never got this method to work for me. Will try this again now, and will report back in a sec LOL Again thankyou all, other forums dont replie to hitachi questions lol

Right done exactly as miketrev has stated, jf still finds the ec00 port and stuff but now doesnt detect any xbox 360 drive. Renamed the file back restarted and finds them again but freezes when 79 and 47 are connected. Damn it thought that would have worked....

Could be a bad board if other hitachis are working. I had one do a similar thing on a 79.

i brought a new one and tried it, did exactly the samething. I have always had probs with 79 drives though just not this bad. As soon as power is connected it freezes dont have time to click or run anything. Then wont un freeze until i turn it off. Must be a portio32 problem, i will try other jungleflasher versions and see if this is the same problem as its getting highly frustrating now.

Is there some other way to flash Hitachi's, i know the answer is prob no but worth asking in this case

    hi,

thanks gameover read some other of your posts, you seem very knowledgable lol Yeah they shown a yellow exclamantion mark next to VIA and a code of 39. FOund my sata ports in jf but didnt find any xbox 360 drive tried a benq, sammy and the hitachi thats giving me grief. I am using the audio cd correctly well i think so. I eject the drive tray put the disk in, send mode b, takes it, click play 79 cd on the bottom and bingo, well usually anyway. But as soon as i turn the hitachi drive on, my pc instantly freezes until i turn it off.
