Hi all, Quick question. I have an old Hitachi which the laser went. I replaced that today but now the laser is not moving freely back and forth up the rails. The laser lights up and the disc spins but thats it. I manually pushed the laser to the back but then the eject button doesn't work on the console until I bring it back to the front. Any ideas? Thanks to all
Was it a brand new laser purchased? If so make sure you removed the anti-static solder point which stops the laser moving in transit. If the solder ball is present then it will be situated across 3 points on the side of the laser hop on the small piece of circuitry.Just carefully remove this solder with a soldering iron to expose the 3 lines making sure there is no contact with either line after removal.
Lets do a checklist: How long do the discs spin for? have you checked all the cables for broken connections in the drive? make sure the laser ribbon is firmly held has all the anti-static solder been removed? was it flashed after you put in the new laser or before? can you hear any clicking? what discs have you tested with? have you removed the magnet and left open top to see how the drive reacts to media? are the guide rails bone dry? did you do any adjustments to the motor height after fitting the new laser? is the sata connection fitted correctly from the drive to the mobo? Have you pot checked the new laser? What error does the console provide when running a original game? Try checking these if you can Ohmms and get back to the forums.
It's the worm motor if the laser is not going back and forth. Make sure the the laser guide is on track with the worm drive first.
