So under "drive revision," I successfully flashed my hitachi drive by choosing 78/79. BUT my drive is a 59 (it says on the top of the actual drive). In jungle flasher it recognized as a 78. The 360 ran fine for a while but then it red ringed a day later. Maybe I should redo it? Attempting it now. update: doesn't freakin work. simply can't restore to 58/59 firmware. i guess i changed my 59 hitachi into a 78? update: restored/flashed to 78 again. but now drive doesn't open at all, even though jungle is giving me success confirmation. i think my drive is dead...even though jungle says everything is fine. ahhh what should i do. update: ahahahahaha turns out there was a disk tray power connector i accidentally unplugged. drive works fine now. but 360 still red rings when i plug the drive in. i think my 360 is just dead, but the drive is fine. wonder if i can sell the drive. eh i'm just gonna towel trick it.
don't towel trick it, look at the fix. a member on this board shows you how to do it. it's a very good fix. I can't remember his name though.. It's in his signature that's for sure.
What error code is it flashing when it red rings? Secondly, if you want to try the heat gun fix, search for w00ly's heat gun fix on this forum...or through w00ly's sig.
i toweled it and the red ring is gone for now. but....now my hitachi won't read backups. it just says "play dvd." what the? i was playing the hitachi on lt+ 1.1 just two days ago. i reflashed it several times but it just doesn't work anymore. overheating drive = can't read backups?

there is no such thing. The drive probably has a 59 case but the drive is actually a 79. I've swapped cases, they're all the same. The red ring is not related to the drive. Time to trash that console or do a reflow.
erm...are you asking me if i autofix my backups? yea, i do yea i think i'm gonna have to buy a new one. this time, for sure not a freakin hitachi...old, outdated, prone to rrod pos.
