i still cannot update norton, ad-aware etc. and when i reboot pc my firwall is always turned off and i have to manually turn it on.
also in my c drive and in my d drive i have folders that say they are empty but i delete and they just come back. The folder icon looks faded compared to other folders. appreciate all the help.
d21cb, Those faded icons and folders are hidden and system files that you have turned on in the folder view options.. DO NOT poke around or delete any of them UNLESS YOU KNOW WHAT YOUR’RE DOING!! You can hose your machine, in a heart beat…. I’m working 12 and 14 hr shifts for the next few days and won’t be able to post anything until Sunday or Monday so please just hang in there and we will get you fixed…. 2oG
ok i havent messed with anything but have downloaded ccleaner want me to run this and see what i get? plus i am getting pop-ups when i click on some links. is there any hope or should i reformat?
d21cb, Reformat/reinstall is a “Last Resort”. Let’s see if we can correct your situation, first. I hate Vista…. It’s M$’s big failure. Windows 7 will be out soon to correct Vista but, M$ will want you to pay for it in order to correct their mistakes….. Sad! I have a beta version of Win 7 installed, and love it. I’ll not pay for it when the final version comes out (I’ve been a geek too long for that, lol) Let’s see if we can clear your problems with a little Bigger Gun! Do the following exactly as stated: 1. Download Combo fix from one of these locations. * IMPORTANT !!! Place combofix.exe on your Desktop http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe http://subs.geekstogo.com/ComboFix.exe 2. Click start > run and Copy and Paste this in exactly, using the picture below for reference, then click OK. 3. Combo will begin to run DO NOTHING while this is happening. • It will kill a few processes and disconnect you from the internet. • If by chance it stops prematurely you can re-establish your internet connection by restarting your computer. • This needs to be done so the program can work most efficiently for you. Do not attempt to use the internet or anything else while it's doing its job for you. **Understand that things like your system clock changing and your desktop disappearing might happen. Do not worry, because all will be restored later. If when it's completed you can not get on the internet just reboot the computer Post the log from comboFix for me located in c:\comboFix.txt 2oG (that’s 2 as in twice, little o as in not too old, and Geek with a Capital “G” as in been there, done that..)
i realize that you were busy working and all but i use my computer for personal and business so i went ahead and reformted my computer. appreciate your help though. a friends computer will automatically shut down and then when it goes to reboot at the top of the screen it says no OS found hit any button to continue and then the screen just reappears. should i start but runnin HJT, superantispyware, and malwarebytes and post a log like u had me do?
if you turn the power off for a few min then turn it back on it works so when i get it working should i try and run the programs???
