Hello, I'm new to the forum, and I'd like to use some of your skills :)

First off though, I wanted to thank everyone here for taking the time to look into my question. A big thanks also goes out to 2oldgeek, from whose posts I could extract a means to deliver me from the dreaded .tt3.tmp.vbs virus.

So, I made me myself an HJT log, and since it's crammed with lines, I was wondering if I could cut some loose. Without further ado, here it is:

What I'm looking for, I want to optimize my system, and I have a low tolerance barrier for programs that encroach upon my system for whatever reason. I see lines like MSN and Quicktime, and although I use the programs, I don't want them loaded in my memory all the time, nor do I have any need for the "services" (like start-up on boot) they offer.

So, have a look, and tell me what you think :)
Again, my thanks to anyone looking it over.

    Greetzz,

    PureE

    Hi Puree

The only things I can see in your log that deserves to be kicked away are some Toshiba programs, DVD programs, and Quicktime. Other than that, nothing "bad" should be loading when windows start. It is very much safer to actually disable startup in these programs themselves then to fix it using HijackThis, as HijackThis was not meant to be a tool disabling software, only malware.

Also, you should update your Windows service pack. An updated windows will keep you secure as well.

    Best Regards :D

Thanks! I'll look into disabling them manually.

    Hi Puree,

Thanks for the thanks about my posts…. [IMG]

Here is one that cdavfrew missed… I’ll have to dig him about that. Lol

Your Java is out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system

Java Runtime can be activated by websites, so if there is security vulnerability in any Java version on your machine, it can be exploited by a malicious site to infect your machine. Each new version of Java fixes security vulnerabilities, so it's extremely important to keep up to date, and it's auto-update mechanism isn't considered very reliable. So yes, it's important to regularly check for updates and if you don't use it, then its best removed from your machine.

    Update Java using JavaRa

Please download JavaRa and unzip it to your desktop.
    • Double-click on JavaRa.exe to start the program.
    • Click on Remove Older Versions to remove the older versions of Java installed on your computer.
    • Click Yes when prompted. When JavaRa is done, a notice will appear that a logfile has been produced. Click OK.
    • A logfile will pop up. Please save it to a convenient location.

Then download and install Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 7.
