Hello, I'm new to the forum, and I'd like to use some of your skills First off though, I wanted to thank everyone here for taking the time to look into my question. A big thanks also goes out to 2oldgeek, from whose posts I could extract a means to deliver me from the dreaded .tt3.tmp.vbs virus. So, I made me myself an HJT log, and since it's crammed with lines, I was wondering if I could cut some loose. Without further ado, here it is: Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2 Scan saved at 13:13:55, on 20-9-2008 Platform: Windows XP SP2 (WinNT 5.01.2600) MSIE: Internet Explorer v7.00 (7.00.6000.16640) Boot mode: Normal Running processes: C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe C:\Program Files\Intel\Wireless\Bin\EvtEng.exe C:\Program Files\Intel\Wireless\Bin\S24EvMon.exe D:\utils\Avast\aswUpdSv.exe D:\utils\Avast\ashServ.exe C:\WINDOWS\Explorer.EXE C:\Program Files\TOSHIBA\Touch and Launch\PadExe.exe C:\Program Files\TOSHIBA\TouchPad\TPTray.exe C:\Program Files\Intel\Wireless\bin\ZCfgSvc.exe C:\Program Files\Intel\Wireless\Bin\ifrmewrk.exe D:\utils\Avast\ashDisp.exe C:\WINDOWS\RTHDCPL.EXE C:\WINDOWS\system32\ctfmon.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.exe C:\Program Files\TOSHIBA\ConfigFree\CFSvcs.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\DVDRAMSV.exe C:\Program Files\Intel\Wireless\Bin\RegSrvc.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\TODDSrv.exe D:\utils\Avast\ashMaiSv.exe D:\utils\Avast\ashWebSv.exe C:\PROGRA~1\Intel\Wireless\Bin\Dot1XCfg.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe D:\utils\Winamp\winamp.exe D:\utils\Firefox\firefox.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\wuauclt.exe D:\utils\Hijack This\HijackThis.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\wuauclt.exe R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://high5.net/comic/?open=117 R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=69157 R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=54896 R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=54896 R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=69157 O2 - BHO: AcroIEHlprObj Class - {06849E9F-C8D7-4D59-B87D-784B7D6BE0B3} - C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 7.0\ActiveX\AcroIEHelper.dll O2 - BHO: SSVHelper Class - {761497BB-D6F0-462C-B6EB-D4DAF1D92D43} - C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_06\bin\ssv.dll O2 - BHO: (no name) - {7E853D72-626A-48EC-A868-BA8D5E23E045} - (no file) O2 - BHO: Windows Live Sign-in Helper - {9030D464-4C02-4ABF-8ECC-5164760863C6} - C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Windows Live\WindowsLiveLogin.dll O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [PadTouch] C:\Program Files\TOSHIBA\Touch and Launch\PadExe.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [TPNF] C:\Program Files\TOSHIBA\TouchPad\TPTray.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [IntelZeroConfig] "C:\Program Files\Intel\Wireless\bin\ZCfgSvc.exe" O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [IntelWireless] "C:\Program Files\Intel\Wireless\Bin\ifrmewrk.exe" /tf Intel PROSet/Wireless O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [avast!] D:\utils\Avast\ashDisp.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [RTHDCPL] RTHDCPL.EXE O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "D:\utils\Quicktime\QTTask.exe" -atboottime O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [ctfmon.exe] C:\WINDOWS\system32\ctfmon.exe O4 - HKUS\S-1-5-18\..\Run: [CTFMON.EXE] C:\WINDOWS\system32\CTFMON.EXE (User 'SYSTEM') O4 - HKUS\.DEFAULT\..\Run: [CTFMON.EXE] C:\WINDOWS\system32\CTFMON.EXE (User 'Default user') O9 - Extra button: (no name) - {08B0E5C0-4FCB-11CF-AAA5-00401C608501} - C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_06\bin\ssv.dll O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: Sun Java Console - {08B0E5C0-4FCB-11CF-AAA5-00401C608501} - C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_06\bin\ssv.dll O9 - Extra button: (no name) - {2D663D1A-8670-49D9-A1A5-4C56B4E14E84} - (no file) O9 - Extra button: Research - {92780B25-18CC-41C8-B9BE-3C9C571A8263} - C:\PROGRA~1\MICROS~2\OFFICE11\REFIEBAR.DLL O9 - Extra button: PartyPoker.com - {B7FE5D70-9AA2-40F1-9C6B-12A255F085E1} - D:\Games\PartyPoker\PartyPoker\RunApp.exe O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: PartyPoker.com - {B7FE5D70-9AA2-40F1-9C6B-12A255F085E1} - D:\Games\PartyPoker\PartyPoker\RunApp.exe O9 - Extra button: (no name) - {e2e2dd38-d088-4134-82b7-f2ba38496583} - C:\WINDOWS\Network Diagnostic\xpnetdiag.exe O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: @xpsp3res.dll,-20001 - {e2e2dd38-d088-4134-82b7-f2ba38496583} - C:\WINDOWS\Network Diagnostic\xpnetdiag.exe O9 - Extra button: Messenger - {FB5F1910-F110-11d2-BB9E-00C04F795683} - C:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exe O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: Windows Messenger - {FB5F1910-F110-11d2-BB9E-00C04F795683} - C:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exe O10 - Unknown file in Winsock LSP: c:\windows\system32\nwprovau.dll O16 - DPF: {5C051655-FCD5-4969-9182-770EA5AA5565} (Solitaire Showdown Class) - http://messenger.zone.msn.com/binary/SolitaireShowdown.cab56986.cab O16 - DPF: {C3F79A2B-B9B4-4A66-B012-3EE46475B072} (MessengerStatsClient Class) - http://messenger.zone.msn.com/binary/MessengerStatsPAClient.cab56907.cab O23 - Service: avast! iAVS4 Control Service (aswUpdSv) - ALWIL Software - D:\utils\Avast\aswUpdSv.exe O23 - Service: avast! I see lines like MSN and Quicktime, and although I use the programs, I don't want them loaded in my memory all the time, nor do I have any need for the "services" (like start-up on boot) they offer. So, have a look, and tell me what you think Again, my thanks to anyone looking it over. Greetzz, PureE
Hi Puree The only things I can see in your log that deserves to be kicked away are some Toshiba programs, DVD programs, and Quicktime. Other than that, nothing "bad" should be loading when windows start. It is very much safer to actually disable startup in these programs themselves then to fix it using HijackThis, as HijackThis was not meant to be a tool disabling software, only malware. Also, you should update your Windows service pack. An updated windows will keep you secure as well. Best Regards
Hi Puree, Thanks for the thanks about my posts…. Here is one that cdavfrew missed… I’ll have to dig him about that. Lol Your Java is out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system Java Runtime can be activated by websites, so if there is security vulnerability in any Java version on your machine, it can be exploited by a malicious site to infect your machine. Each new version of Java fixes security vulnerabilities, so it's extremely important to keep up to date, and it's auto-update mechanism isn't considered very reliable. So yes, it's important to regularly check for updates and if you don't use it, then its best removed from your machine. Update Java using JavaRa Please download JavaRa and unzip it to your desktop. • Double-click on JavaRa.exe to start the program. • Click on Remove Older Versions to remove the older versions of Java installed on your computer. • Click Yes when prompted. When JavaRa is done, a notice will appear that a logfile has been produced. Click OK. • A logfile will pop up. Please save it to a convenient location. Then download and install Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 7. 2OG
