okay, i ws up late one night trying to figure out why my playstation emu wasn't working (it never did). well then something told me to try in the backup that i had stored in my e drive. Well now, whenever i turn my Xbox on, it gives me this "service required" message. I can still play the Xbox games i own, but have no access to my hard drive other than game saves! its weird, cause i can still do the L trigger, R trigger, start, back soft reset. HELP ME PLZ! without my xbox, i no longer think i can call myself a gamer, let alone prove to other that i am...
I'm guessing you softmodded your xbox...hopefully you didn't delete the linux files. All you have to do is put the game in that you softmodded with and reinstall everything. If you dont want to do that..or you dont have the disc anymore, you can get AID 3.0 at xbox-hq.com, burn that to a disc and you will be able to reinstall all your dash's and what not.
You can delete the linux files, but as long as he has the softmod installed (yes you can have the softmod installed and still get error 21 and 13), then AID 3.0 is the way to go. From the sounds of it, his Xbox is still modded but the dashboard was deleted/corrupted sometime.
