Send contents of that txt file to this thread.
Hi, I had this same problem with the same site. I am pretty sure I fixed it. It took me about 3 hours to track it down but I knew where I got it from and when. Anyways, here is the information you will need. First you need to go download the Microsoft Windows Defender bata 2 product. When you do this go ahead and install it. Now under the tools option across the top when you click it you will get an software Explorer link option. select this. Now you will be in the Startup programs and the first of the list will be subtitled Publisher Not Available. This drew a red flag for the applications and regersities in this area. In it was 3 registory items. One for regperf, dcomcfg, and atmclk. These three files are you problem. For my machine they were located in the Windows/system32/ fold. When you click on each one in the Windows Defender it will tell you 2 important things. 1) where the regeristory entry is that you have to disable and delete and 2) where the file location is. Now What my thinking was is to go to the 3 files and rename this to something like regperfpossiblebug and then restart my computer after i renamed thme to see if it removed the problem. Needless to say you will have to restart a number of times and i will explain later. So whne i tried to rename them I could not because they were in use. i spent about an hour trying to stop them and rename them to no avail. So I went and got a freeware program (google search) named MoveonBoot. Once you enter the information to rename the 3 files. It will rename them when you reboot your computer. So download this and rename them. It will take running it three times to rename the 3 files. It does not have a batch file rename option. So now reboot your computer. You should have all three renamed when you check back in the directory BUT the 3 registory entries will be there again if you went ahead and removed them before you rebooted. The reason for this is that the regpert.exe will run before the MoveonBoot program does so the regpert will check to see if the entries are there and if not will go ahead and remake them. So what you do is restart Windows Defender and go back and now remove the three registory entries. Ok now you should reboot. Then start up your IE and go into tools>Internet options and reset your home page.. Now double chekc and make sure everything is working fine. then you can delete the three files permenantly if you wish. Since they are renamed they will not be found again. And who says computers are smarter thasn humans? lol.. had to say it sorry.. So there is one think that got screwed up on my IE that i am not sure at this exact moment to fix with out reinstalling Norton. When this "spyware" got installed it removed my Norton antivirus icon and link on the tool bar of IE. I am nto to concerned with this just it was nice to have at my fingertips. lol. Anyways, for now this is what I know of this item and I went thur my running processes and startups and dont see anything else out of place. The key here that helped me was I knew exactly what time I got the darn thing and was able to use the creation date to question the 3 files. I did a internet search on there file names and found information that said they were possible spyware. So this helped to reasure me a little to the three files in quesiton. So one other precausion you CAN make if you like is to save your current host file and install one that blocks MOST not all of these bad sites. For example the sites that we were being redirected to was on this list for the host fiel and thus was I got a web site unable to be fold. Which helps to limit the damamge to a point. here is a link to the locaiton on the host information anf the txt file you can get and replace your host file with. I would recommend you rename your current host file to like host_orginal_01 so incause you need to covert back to it. http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm Anyways I hope this helps you out and gets you up and running again. Later, Neo
hello dap 1680. hope you were able to clean up your internet options. i had the same very same problem this week with my IE homepage going to www.safetydefender.com. what worked for me was the "smitfraudfix" site. run the entire diagnostics and let it clean everything. now i can go back to work. another option give to me was to run a system restore For Windows XP: http://www.windowsreinstall.com/install/winxp/howto3/lauchsystemrestore.htm. did not try it, but it was a good suggestion.
