Hi everyone. I need some help here. I have an Windows Vista HP computer with just one DVD burner and one hardrive.

I had a computer thats power source got messed up awhile ago and is no longer functioning (warranty expired, it cost more to get it fixed than it did just buying another computer so thats what I did) but I was able to salvage the processor, DVD burner and the hardrive from it which all work flawlessly by some miracle.

Recently I've needed to work on my XP hardrive from my old computer and use my Vista hardrive as well. So what I've been doing is taking off the side of my computer and switching to and from hardrives which needless to say is a pain in the ass and I'm still somewhat new to the area of messing with computer parts and I'm afraid I might mess something up.

Now, I've tried having them both hooked up at the same time but I only have one big SATA and two small SATA slots on my motherboard, with one of the small SATA cables going to my factory original DVD burner and of course to the original hardrive. I need both a small SATA and big SATA cord to have both of the hardrives going on at the same time and the hardrive doesn't function without the big SATA.

Is there anyone of getting around this problem? I just want to be able to boot either my XP hardrive or my Vista hardrive without having to open up the case and swap them out all the time.

Also, about my old DVD burner, it has a cable that is nowhere to be seen in my computer at all and quite frankly, I have no idea what the hell the cable is called. Heres the best picture I could get of it...

Theres only that slot available on the back of the burner as well. There are no other slots on it so an alternate connection is not possible. I wasn't thinking I could use some kind of converter? Maybe whatever this wire is to a SATA? If it exists that is. If anyone was wondering, my old computer was a slim Dell. Hence why the burner is so compact looking.

Also, I have a question about the processor from the old computer, which is mind blowingly better than the one in my new computer. (my old computer was 750 dollars, my new one was only 200) I put it in a few weeks ago but something was just so loud and annoying I literally couldn't even think straight. I mean, the speed was awesome. Everything ran smooth as butter but I just couldn't ignore the noise. Now, I was assuming it was the fan that goes over it. I would just need to replace the fan, correct? I was thinking of buying this fan...

But I wasn't sure if something in my computer would go haywire because I knew it had to be a wattage the computer can operate with. How would I figure out this fan is compatible with my motherboard type?

Thank you for any help I may receive. This stuff is just way over my head I'm afraid.

your pictures are blurry so can't make out what you have except that the hd appears to be from seagate. sata connectors on motherboards & drives are small so the big "sata" connector is either for ide(40 pin) drives or floppy(34 pin) drives. the old burner is actually designed & made for laptops & that probably came from a dell as i have both their laptop floppy drive & laptop cdrom from a dell thin desktop. what is the make & model# of your computer to see if can find the specs on it?
