I am trying to burn DVD's using my computer. The movies play fine on my computer with no problems. They have been sent to me already decrypted (I guess is what you call it), so all i have to do is burn them. I am using Nero Vision to burn them with Maxell DVD-R disks. the problem is that part of the way through the movies they start to mess up. Meaning that they start having small blocks of color come through or freeze up, or look like they are moving in complete slow motion. My disc burner is an internal burner. I guess my questions are this: Do i need to use a different program to burn them?? I have DVD shrink on my computer, but didn't think i had to use it with these movies. Is there something I am doing wrong? Can you use a disc cleaner to clean the burner, and if so should you? Should i use another program that decrypts or encodes the movies? any help will greatly be appreciated as I don't really know alot about burning DVD's. Moe
Burn them at 4x maximum. If it doesn't help, switch to 'Verbatim' brand and try again. What your describing is often caused by marginal media burned at too high a rate.
I will try that. i used Memorex the first time to burn them and my DVD player said it was an invalid disc. lolol thanks for your response i greatly appreciate it.
Ok, i tried burning them at 4X speed, and also cleaned the DVD burner. It didn't help. the movie burns good at the beginning but part of the way through it starts freezing up, getting blotches (colored squares) in it, and the sound starts skipping. Could it be a problem with Nero?? I have Nero 8 which was given to me, but has a bad activation code, could that cause me problems? Sorry to be a bother, but i hate to waste DVD's. One other thing that is different. I burnt College Road Trip, it burnt great, it was on a Maxell DVD+R the others are on a -R should that matter? thanks in advance.
Does the burned disk play ok on the PC? If it plays ok on the PC and was burned on good media at a moderate speed, then it should play on the standalone ok - unless the standalone specifies that it prefers one or the other DVD+ or DVD- If you can burn another +R and that plays ok, then you have found the problem. You can also try playing the problem disk on another standalone unit to see if it's good.
Thanks for your response. I tried the disc on the PC and it plays fine. I used InterVideo WinDVD 5 to play back the burnt disc. I don't have a book or anything for the stand alone, so i'm not sure how to tell if it prefers + or - I will have to get another + disc tomorrow and see if it works. I greatly appreciate all your patience and help with this problem. thanks alot.
Ok, I was finally able to reburn a copy of a movie using a DVD-R, my daughter played it while i was at work. she stated that the first time she played it, that it got to a certain part in the movie and then skipped to the very end of the movie. when she ejected it and then replayed it, she stated that it played through with just a few places that sort of froze up and paused. i have been getting alot of files so my computer is moving slow. i am in the process of looking up my DVD player. In the mean time can someone suggest a good program to use to decode/decrypt (not sure what it is actually called) a DVD in order to burn it?? Attar thanks so much for all your help. i really do appreciate it. Maybe i will get the hang of this before too long.
