I have read a lot of hotswapping threads but I am stuck. I have the xbox connected to the pc. On the desktop screen, that little box in the bottom right corner pops up telling me it detected the harddrive. This is the point where I am stuck. Here are my steps. I copied the xbox c folders to the C folder in xboxhdm 1.9. I did the make-iso-win and burned to verbatim cd with dvdecrypter. I can not get the cd to boot up. I even changed the pc's startup to boot from the cd-rom first. Here are the sites that I have used.

The reason I am hotswapping is I have error 21. I have a softmod with evox. I am able to play original games but no backup nor can I go to any dashboard. I tried using a game with xbox live to reinstall ms dashboard but kicks me to error 21 screen. I also tried flashfxp with no luck.

My problem turned out to be the dvd drive. It doesn't like cd-r's. I burned the program to a dvd and it worked. By the end of the evening so does the xbox. This was one heck of a learning experience. Perhaps this will help others.
