I don't get it either. I use that combo of programs all the time and have yet to get a disc that won't play.

noob question- I've never even heard of anydvd but it looks like it removes the copy protection on a dvd, while you play a dvd. So I guess you're supposed to play the movie using anydvd and decrpyt at the same time. Can you even do that, use 2 programs on the same dvd media? Just a bit confused.

AnyDVD is a driver that runs in the background removing copy protections and regions. Your ripper then "sees" an unprotected and region free disc and easily does it's thing.

Ok sorry tony but I think your full of it. I have done it the same way with the same programs and it still doesnt play. It burns fine but put it in the dvd player and its black. I am about to try to re author it without menus and see if that works.

A lot of people have been able to copying HOFD. If you can't, then it says something about your original disc, your programs or you use of these programs. Tony is correct. Numerous members use the exact same method with great success.

jay, if you can burn the disc fine without errors and then you get a black screen when you put it in a player, it's probably poor quality media. Have you tried other media?

Well, I had the same problem when trying to backup HOFD us version.
After spending 4 hours I finally was able to make a perfect copy. I first fired up AnyDVD 5.1.1.1. Second I fired up DVD decryptor 3.5.4.0. I first tried to automatically rip through File Mode but that didn't work. It gave me lots of 'Headers not found' + 'other errors' and when I was done ripping I had a 7.5 GB Directory and it just didn't play. So I fired up DVD decryptor for a second time, went back to the File Mode and instead clicked manually on every VOB, IFO, BUP that is visible in the white window on the right side where all the DVD files are listed.(there's many of them!). 1 file 'VTS_11_1_VOB' was given a dummy sector and one file was given as being faulty but it ripped anyway. Once the ripping was done it played. I then fired up Shrink and re-authored the movie. Took away all the Asian and French languages and got a 100% perfect working copy with no image quality loss. The movie after authoring ended up being around 4 Gb. I hope it helps for some people. Good luck.

HOFD is nothing special... Again, I've said before and will say it again. Simply use any of these combo and you'll be a happy camper.

    DVD43 with InterVideo DVDCopy 3
    DVD43 with 1Click DVD Copy
    DVD43 with SHrink
    DVD43 with DvdCLoner II
DVDIdle Pro5.82 or 5.84 with InterVideo DVDCopy 3
DVDIdle Pro5.82 or 5.84 with SHrink
    AnyDVD with SHrink
    AnyDVD with SHrink and Nero
DVD Decrypter [the lastest version] with SHrink
DVD Decrypter with Shrink and Nero
    DVD Region FREE+CSS with SHrink
    DVD Region FEE+CSS with Nero

If for some reason you've used the above mentioned and failed to do a successful backed up, then it is likely that the "original dvd" is dirty, scratch or it is simply a bad printed.

I dont know. I used the dvd decrypter methods with all updated stuff. I tried 2 different copies and got the same thing. Even used different media and it did the same. Oh well like I said I just ended up removing the menu.

I used the newest version of dvdshrink and anydvd. Reauthored for the movie only, then backed up the complete dvd. Both backups are awesome.
ps.. thought this movie was more of a "love story" than an action flick.... ;) I liked it....

Best Solution: DVD Decrypter 3.5.4.0 and copy the movie to the hard disk. Then Use Clone DVD 2.8.2.1. The Copy is PERFECT!

I copied and burned it with DVD Decrypter 3.5.4. Then use DVD shrink to do the rest. When I tried to do the whole thing with DVD Shrink, I received an error about not enough memory to carry out the process and it was terminated. But I got it with DVD Decrypter.

My issues with HoFD has been:
    1. Shrink (v3.2.15) locked up at 35%
    2. dvdDecrypter (v3.5.4.0) using File mode: got stuck doing some endless loop on the first file:
    I 14:06:28 Authenticating...
    I 14:06:29 Extracting Sectors...
    I 14:06:28 Authenticating...
    I 14:06:29 Extracting Sectors...

    3. I tried changing some settings from default, trying to make dvdD bypass whatever new encryption they're using. No dice.

    4. I heard I should try ISO mode and DVD43 (v3.5.3), so I'm trying that now for over an hour and it's still stuck in a loop, it's at 2% after over an hour.

    5. With AnyDVD (v5.2.6.1) running, Shrink actually analyzed the disk instead of locking up at 35%, but while ripping it locked up at 20% twice, w/ the 'data cylindrical error' (tried both HD and ISO modes). Going to try AnyDVD w/ DVDDecrypter now.... :(

I'm not a super dvd-phile, so I might need any suggestions spelled out for me. Help is appreciated, thank you.

try latest dvd decrypter (3.5.4.0 from software page at top of screen), BUT there's no funny protection of House of Flying Daggers so i'm recommending that purely so you have the latest and last version of decrypter..
