Ok I have an old tower that I dont use here are the specs 1 dual layer dvd burner combo drive with everything 1 pioneer dvd rom 1 lite on cd burner all on ide not sata 320 gb maxtor 7200 rpm hard drive 1 gig of ram ati radeon 9550 256mb the motherboard is ecs I cant find the model number the case is an xdreamer 2 black intel celeron 2.0ghz 400 w cheapo free power supply with the case How much will this thing get me or is it worth upgrading
Keep the optical drives and the hard drive, sell the rest, and start fresh. You can keep the case if you like, but bin the power supply and get a proper one.
@zoom it's a 1 unless you want to play with linux then it's a 10. You won't get much for the parts as specs are at least 4 years old. I would save the case get a new power supply, keep parts sam stated and build a new system. You'll save about 80-100 on the parts you reuse.
Depends what you want to do with it. As a games PC, it's 2. As a works machine you do office stuff or run Linux on, maybe 6. It's only not higher because ECS motherboards are inescapably awful.
Yeah agreed keep your optical drives and HD, their fine, case is a matter of preference but everything else is old, outdated or out of spec by today's standards. I would say it's not even qualified to run at a public library.. For gaming that thing is hopeless, modern games nowadays recommend a minimum 1Gb of RAM, a graphics card that supports 3.0 Pixel Shaders (yours doesn't) and 2.2Ghz Dual Core processor or higher. If your just using it for homework, internet browsing, burning CD's, oddjobs, etc... then yeah, it'll last no problems, but for gaming, it's useless.
